Middlesbrough have joined the chase to sign Tottenham striker Mido.

Boro have matched the £6m offers from Birmingham and Sunderland for the 24-year-old Mido and have been given permission to speak to him by Spurs.

Boro boss Gareth Southgate said: "Yes we have made our interest in Mido known to Spurs. We're awaiting developments."

The Egyptian striker is surplus to requirements at White Hart Lane following the arrival of Darren Bent from Charlton Athletic.

Birmingham are trying to revive a deal for Mido, which collapsed two weeks ago, while Sunderland are also courting the Egyptian forward.

Blues boss Steve Bruce said: "It was all sorts of things like length of contract, stipulations in the contract.

"Those seem to have been ironed out so, if talks are ongoing again, then great. We made the best offer we can to the player. We'll see what happens."

Bruce added: "It'll be a permanent transfer if it happens. That's where it got clouded initially.

"We were thinking we were going to get a loan deal for a year but it became obvious Tottenham didn't want that.

"They wanted a permanent deal which we are trying to resurrect."

Mido will be Birmingham boss Steve Bruce's biggest buy of the summer so far if the deal goes through.

1 of 3 teams by the looks of it, Boro, Brum and Fulham (although i dont think they can afford him anymore). Shows how indemand he is and how hes not that bad a player, just that we have 4 better strikers in front of him.

Boro seems like a natural choice, suprised they weren't in for him earlier. They are lacking a decent striker to play with Yakubu, since Viduka went to Newcaastle.

Just hope he doesn't come back, score 25 goals and completely bite us in the backside.

Not out of the question for him to get 25 goals. Maybe not for Boro but for a team that uses a lot of crosses like Sunderland Mido will be a huge threat.

I think Mido has it in him as long as he's the star of the front line. Sunderland would be great for him, 'Boro too. Not sure about about Birmingham though. Anyhow, getting £6m for him is a right bonus.

My money is defo on him scoring against us as soon as the chance arises.....

Let's get a bidding war going. I want to see Mido's price double!

exactly what I thought when I read it. If there are several clubs in for him it would be nice to see us stand our ground and see who will offer a bit more for him. Of course I'll be chuffed with £6mill off anyone... but if there's that much interest then it would be nice to see a bit of a tussle over the price.

After Brucey's desparaging (and potentially innacurrate) comments regarding Ghaly, I cannot really see him playing for them. I reckon if he is played week in week out and lays off the pies then he will do well for any of these teams.
