Kevin-Prince Boateng hopes to finally go on his honeymoon after helping Tottenham break into the Champions League next May.

The 20-year-old German midfielder got married two days after signing from Hertha Berlin but got straight into pre-season preparations rather than go away with his wife Jenny.

Boateng has promised her a honeymoon next summer, by which time he hopes Spurs will be established in the top four of the Premier League.

"With this team we can go to fourth place and maybe I think higher, if we get luck," said the youngster. "This team is great."

Spurs beat Sevilla to the signature of Boateng, with the midfielder now honing his match-sharpness before he starts to fight his way into Martin Jol's starting XI.

It means he may be watching on the sidelines at the Stadium of Light when Spurs start their campaign against Sunderland.

"I didn't play any pre-season games in Germany and I need a little bit of time," he said.

"I think in maybe two or three weeks but don't put me under pressure because it is my first season, if I play 10 games or so I will be happy."

Boateng can still play for Ghana but wants to use the spotlight at White Hart Lane to put him in contention for a first cap for Germany, where he grew up.

His upbringing in a tough area of Berlin has seen him nicknamed the "Ghetto Kid", and he has had 12 tattoos since he decided against a life of crime.

"The people there did not have much money and only did criminal things," said the Germany Under-21 midfielder. "When I was 14 or 15 there were two ways - to go the criminal way or play football. My heart and my mind said to play football."

One of his tattoos is of his wife carrying a gun, and he joked: "It was when I told her the honeymoon was in Tottenham!"

Boateng has footballing pedigree as he is a relative of the late Helmut Rahn, who scored the winner in the 1954 World Cup final.

He is hoping to emulate former Germany striker Jurgen Klinsmann as a Spurs hero, but first wants to offer a creative spark in Jol's midfield.

"Klinsmann was a big hero here and I want to see if I can do it also," he said.

"My dream position is number 10 in midfield, but I can be an attacking player on the left or right, it's not a problem. I think I'm creative, the coach said to me that I can help and I want to do that with all the positive things I can do."

... but I can be an attacking player on the left or right, it's not a problem...

These two statements make me a happy chappy.

I like him already. Just like Jol, knows what to say and is very realistic about expectations.
Good on you Prince.

"

What is he trying to say... that it is a bit rough in North London. The cheek, I have been to Berlin and there are parts that you wouldn't go to in the day let alone the night.

One of his tattoos is of his wife carrying a gun,

how bizarre.

good luck to him.
shame he hasn't got any playing time under his belt this pre-season, as we are a touch short with lennon out.

despite what many say, i feel we now have a decent amount of creative talent in midfield - steed, lennon, taarabt and now the prince. i must admit, i've only seen the latter two briefly, but they are an improvement on last season.

Love the jib of this guy. A lot cooler than I imagined (as opposed to 'me-me-me')

IMHO, could become a Spurs fave!

The more important thing he said was that he'd be happy to play 10 games this season. This shows that he know he's in a squad full of quality players and would be prepared to learn and grow with squad. Plus he wont moan much if not being put straight into the team. Some young players nowadays are just so impatient and arrogant they'd want to come into the team straight away.

His statement that he could play as the number 10, left or right also shows he's willing to play wherever he's needed and called upon and hopefully has the skilled to play anywhere across the field as well.

I like him already...

Good interview, he's saying the right things there. Hope he's a Klinsmann and not a Freund!

sounds like he is the kind of player that would swap BMJ for miss World, unlike Defoe:wink:

I've been researching him asking some of my german friends as well as reading up reports and profiles of him. He strikes me as an intellegent boy, very confident and with a good grasp of english. He was approached in 2006 by Ghana to play for them, and when he refused he was badly greeted by the country. His Berlin manager said at the time something like, Im glad Kevin turned down the oppotunity now to play for Ghana. If he did, the german national team would miss out on a fantastic player.

Im glad we have another german in the ranks. A bit of that german steel and belief could really have a positive impact on this team.

This is the confidence we've been looking for. How many times have we heard this from our players....not many -

- "With this team we can go to fourth place and maybe I think higher, if we get luck," said the youngster. "This team is great."

That one quote shows what we have been lacking!! The confidence that we are that good and stuff everyone else!!

oooh - a life of crime or 12 tattoos... a life of crime or 12 tattoos... no I just can't decide.

The other great thing about him turning down Ghana is we don't loose him for 2 months every other January (for african nations cup - why can't they just have it at the same time as the euro champs... or only every 4 years... I guess Africa is a bit hot in June).

And that gun comment made laugh right out loud. Top bloke - him and BMJ could start a double act.

I'm so excited... I'm a 28 year old, sat in my office, a wife, kids and mortgage to think about... but right now - with less than 24 hours to go... I feel as excited as a 7 year old before christmas day (and feel like letting a big 'eeeeeek of excitement')
