Spurs new boy Gareth Bale has been named in the Wales squad to face Bulgaria next week, but was immediately declared doubtful for the match.

Wales boss John Toshack is acutely aware that the £10million 18-year-old is struggling with a hamstring injury and did not play for Spurs at Sunderland at the weekend.

But Toshack said: "I'm aware that he is a major doubt, but I can wait until the weekend to see how he recovers. Maybe Spurs would want him to have 45 minutes with us, but I can understand them being concerned."

Surely we can withdraw him from the squad if he's injured.

Surely he could have consulted with the manager? He sounds like a confrontational idiot.

We are going to have this problem with all of our U.K. players I'm afraid. Everyone goes on about the African players missing a good chunk of the season, but if you add up the England/ Wales/ Ireland friendlies and qualifiers I would guess it's close to being the same.
Spurs should talk to some of our players about playing in all of these games (and I suspect that, contract-wise they cannot stop them), and maybe persuade them to miss, say friendly matches.

If he will be fit enough, maybe it is a good idea to let him have 45 mins for wales to gain some match fitness!

Exactly my thoughts .

How are our players supposed to develop as we need them to if we stand in the way of their ambitions .

Surprised by peoples instictive condemnation of the idea .

People are against the idea because he could aggravate an injury or pick up a new injury and be out for longer. If he's capable of playing for 45 minutes he should be playing them for us.

Other teams have the balls to say no to international duty. Time we did that with King and bale until FULLY fit. i don't care about prestige. We pay their wages not the FA.
