Martin Jol will have to field another makeshift central defensive partnership against Everton at White Hart Lane tonight as Michael Dawson has been ruled out for at least two weeks with ankle ligament damage.
The Tottenham manager is ready to go back into the transfer market for reinforcements in the position and is expected to make an offer for West Bromwich Albion's Curtis Davies.
Dawson turned his ankle in training last Friday, the final session before the squad flew to Sunderland for the Premier League opener on Saturday lunchtime. Although Dawson travelled in the hope of playing, the swelling meant he was left a frustrated onlooker. Scans have now revealed that the injury is worse than was first thought and the length of his recovery will depend on how he responds to treatment over the next 48 hours. If his progress is poor, then he may be out for more than a month.
The club are willing to entertain offers for Rocha and Gardner as they monitor closely Davies's situation at West Brom.
Davies signed a new five-year contract after his club were relegated from the Premier League in 2006 but now wants to move on. He has submitted a transfer request and relinquished the club captaincy but Jeremy Peace, Albion's chairman, is sticking to his £8m valuation.
Aston Villa have offered £6m with a further £1m based on appearances but that has not been accepted.
Tottenham believe that Davies, who can also play at right-back, would prefer to join them. Neither Villa nor Tottenham, though, want to be drawn into an auction.

Perhaps I haven't seen enough of him, but I am surprised we're "willing to entertain offers" for Rocha - I think he has looked pretty good.

Agreed, Rocha has been pretty good but his absence on saturday was telling. Would have played him over TG any day.
They imply that dawson's injury is a prompt for buying Davies but it seems strange we would buy a player for essentially a month at best. Right now we've got cover for every position, maybe Rocha isn't good enough

Dawson is having a fitness test tonight according to SSN so it cant be that bad!
Davies ability to play right back does interest me as I dont think Ifill is ready yet and Chimbo's loyalty to Spurs isnt exactly concrete.

The fact that Rocha was on the bench on Saturday with Gardner and Stalteri playing says so much - unless he's carrying an injury too?
Curtis Davies should be bought now, not just as cover and competition for King/Kaboul/Dawson but also for the increasingly lacsidasical Chimbonda (It's amazing how awesome he was a year ago compared with now). Maybe this is the kick up the arse he needs, too.

I doubt spurs will spend 8 million on a defender, just because daws is out for 2 weeks.
Any how, daws with a busted ankle is still better than davies.

Gardner over Rocha suggest's Rocha does'nt fit into Jol's plans or was a panic buy last season.Drop Gardner now Jol.........With Kaboul heading everything,Rocha can move around and mark players and runners.Gardner cant even pin the tail on the donkey!!
I agree with most that it's interesting that Davies can play right back and could be telling especially with King's persistent injuries.
Dawson/Kaboul/Davies future centre backs if King cant shrug off his sick note tag

Maybe Chimbonda is dreaming of Chelsea!!

And with Daws and Davies at CB, Kaboul could perhaps step up to DM?

Saw rocha against torino and he was pretty impressive for a makeshift LB. I think Jol benched him against sunderland because he is pretty short and it was likely that we would be bombarded by high balls.
Either the guardian is wrong that he is available for transfer, or the management have got a screw loose...why buy a cb only for emergency cover toward the end of last season if he was cup-tied for uefa cup matches? It just doesnt make sense.

How come Reading who have spent a lot less than us can get a draw at Man U and we can't even do that at Sunderland.Would it not have been better to spend 16.5 mill on reliable defenders etc.
Buy a creative midfielder instead

I am driven to finally submit my first post to spurs community due to reading the constant criticism of the current team and manager.
I have been supporting Spurs since 1953, when our beloved Bill Nicholson was our right half (or should I say RM in moderm parlance). I have seen the glory days, and wonderful they were, but I have also tasted relegation and the bad days. I have never lost the faith in the ability of this great club to once again reach the heights that once they strode so proudly. The current team has been the best for many years and I must congratulate the club’s management for being so forward looking and giving this old,fan a new pride in the club. To read the manic response to one bad performance, and it was bad, against Sunderland on Saturday was saddening. Do you all have such bad memories, we only won one of our first six games last season, losing six of them. But we ended the season feeling so proud to have once again finished in fifth place.
I know that the players and manager would have been badly hurt by the defeat, they don’t need us baying for their heads, but to have all the real fans standing behind them in their ral attempts to get the club back where it belongs.
Thankyou Mr Levy and Mr Jol and all the players for giving me such pleasure and a few heartaches during the last two seasons. You can realy on my indying support as long as I feel that you are fighting to win games and play in the manner that I as a long time Spurs supporter have come to expect for the sake of the club and not just for bragging rights. Lets all get behind the team as they will always play harder and give more for their friends!!!!

If we are really trying to sell Rocha it goes down as a black mark against Comolli's name. He must have spent some time looking at the player before deciding to spend £3.5 million on a 28 year old.
If we do sell we will drop about two million on him. I can see nothing wrong with him, but if we are playing Gardner in his place there must be: probably a lack of pace.
The question with regard to Davies is whether he is good enough. Reputedly Wenger wanted to buy him, which is a good sign since he's refarded as a good judge of a player, but he wouldn't pay an inflated fee for him and neither should we.If Dawson is out for 2 weeks, we'll have to make do for 2 weeks. Our biggest problem in defence is that we have 3 left backs and none of them is available.

Once King and Dawson are healthy, I'd love to see Kaboul in a DM position.

Splitting hairs a bit but even Spurs aren't bad enough to win one & lose six in the space of six games.
Nice to hear someone keeping things in perspective though. The seasons not over because we lost the first game - as you say we lost most of our early games last season & pulled it round. We certainly need to play more positively than we did on Saturday but I think this will happen - we played some amazing attacking football last season & the squad has only improved since then so there's no reason we can't do it again.
Hope to hear more posts from you mate!:hello:
