Middlesbrough have agreed a fee with Tottenham for the London club's out-of-favour Egyptian striker Mido.

Mido, 24, is having a medical at Boro and the Teessiders are hopeful of completing a deal before Thursday.

Sunderland and Birmingham have also expressed an interest in the £6m-rated striker but it appears Boro boss Gareth Southgate has won the battle.

"We have agreed a fee with Tottenham and that has enabled us to have him up to see us," said Southgate.

"He's currently in the process of having his medical and hopefully, if everything goes well, we'll have some news in the next 36 hours."

Mido has fallen further down the pecking order at White Hart Lane with the arrival of Darren Bent in a £16.5m move from Charlton this summer.

Birmingham were trying to revive a deal for Mido after their initial efforts failed in July because of stipulations in the contract.

Sunderland manager Roy Keane has also maintained his interest in the player but may now opt to turn his attentions towards his former Manchester United team-mate Andy Cole. <!-- E SF -->

I'm sure there will be a few "good riddance" posts but this guy was class when he first arrived. Shame it didn't work out.

he still is class but we have better now.

To us he's worth about £3m, to Boro he could well be worth £7/8m

Good deal for both parties.

If he sorts himself out he is worth more than 6 mil for sure. Still all considering we got the money for him.

He's better than Defoe though. We've sold the wrong player

Good luck to the guy, I think he could do quite well at 'Boro. Are we getting the full £6m? I bet its less...

What you reckon 3m , 4m max ?

Don't imagine Sunderland and Boro got into a bidding war .

Bet they thought they'd seen everything with Viduka until Mido took his shirt off .

On form perhaps the best aerial ability in the league and with Morrison and Downing putting them in could become a real terror again .

Its £6.8m according to SSN which is even more than if if would have gone to Brum.

I honestly thought we'd struggle to get 4/5m from him but once again full credit goes to Levy for getting maximum value out of what is to us, an unwanted 5th choice striker.

yeah. to us he“s a 5th choice. to Boro, he“s an immediate upgrade on Aliadiere. especially since they“re going to sell Yakubu before the end of the month. Brum could have him for 6. But Boro need him more so we charge more. Seems logical to me.

I love these inflated prices :)

Its a good price for someone whos commitment was sadly lacking in some games, but good luck to him, as long he doesnt score the winner against us when we play Boro.

I wish we could only sell our players abroard, then they wouldn't come back to haunt us (except Kanoute)!

Good luck to the guy though. He may be a little fat and lazy, but on his day he is pure class.

I don't think there is any doubting that he is a decent player when he is fit and playing regularly.

However he is not a better player than any of our 4 main strikers and so is surplus at Spurs.

Good luck to the guy, although do Boro realise that he will be missing a month or so of the season at the ANC??

Mido simply needs to play regular football and be 'wanted'. He got neither once Berbatov arrived because Berbatov is a better player. It doesn't change the fact that for one season he was instrumental to us nearly qualifying for the Champions League, indeed his injury for the last few months of the season was probably one of the major reasons why we didn't grasp fourth spot (rather than a dodgy lasagne on the final day). So I think fans on this site should try to remember how well he played for the team previously. I agree he's surplus to requirements now but why have a go at a guy who did well for us and who is obtaining the Club 3 million more than was paid for him a year ago? With regular first team football he'll do well for Boro and I say good luck to him (except against the lillywhites!!).

As to him disappearing to the African Cup of Nations, isn't he still person non grata with the Egyptian squad for his previous disrespect?

I'll miss the on-loan Mido who wanted to prove himself. I won't miss the Mido from last season.

Good player just a lack of attiude hampers him, some People on this site seem to have short memories. As they can't remember things from a couple of months ago, let alone a couple of years ago before he went off to the Africian nations when he was on fire.

I hear a lot about Mido's "Bad attitude", I really dont understand this at all, when has he had a "bad attitude"?, hes had bad injuries and problems with his weight but his attitude has always been good, hes always tried very hard but was simply unfortunate that he had a world class player to compete with for his place.
Mido actually is very popular around the players and staff at Spurs and I for one wish him all the best.

I think the whole story is :
B'ham City offered a loan contract for Mido with option of permenant deal worth 6 M if he impressed..but we wanted an imidiate permenant deal and B'ham agreed then suddenly decided to reduce the tag beyond 6M so the deal collapsed

Sunderland entered the race and agreed to pay the 6 M..B'ham City hurried up and agreed to pay the tag too..but Mido wasn't keen on joining either clubs..M'boro joined the race too and offered 6 M and Mido agreed to join them

Sunderland increased their offer to 7.5 M to make more pressure on tottenham to convince Mido to join them..Tottenham demanded a higher offer from M'boro if they're seriously to buy Mido...M'boro decided to raise their offer too but only to 6.8 M which Tottenham accepted although it wasn't the highest..Tottenham only did so respecting Mido's choice of where to play

that's my conclusion of all what i read and heard concerning this saga
