Dimitar Berbatov's groin injury is not serious but he will miss the club's next Premier League game at the weekend, according to the player's agent.
Spurs' miserable start to the new campaign was compounded by the gifted Bulgarian pulling up injured, in the final stages of Tuesday's defeat to Everton.
Berbatov enjoyed a sublime debut campaign last term at White Hart Lane but this season, thus far, has failed to live up to such exacting standards.
Emil Danchev, his agent, has confirmed that a short spell on the sidelines is now necessary and he will miss Saturday's game against Derby.
"I can't say when exactly he will be ready to play," Danchev told Bulgarian Darik radio.
"He'll definitely miss the Derby County match but I hope he'll recover in time to play for the national team.
"He felt some pain in his adductor muscle in the last minute of the Everton match on Tuesday.
"The scan revealed that he sustained a niggling strain and he flew to Munich for consultations."
Bulgaria face Wales in a friendly next Wednesday and it is hoped Berbatov will be ready to play some part.
Just as long as the trip to Germany was to see a specialist and not to negotiate personal terms over a hush hush move to Bayern Munich? Purely my pessimistic conspiracy theory but would explain a lack of energy and enthusiasm from Berbatov thus far. Players blaming each other after Sunderland. £25 million anyone? At least he wouldn't be at a competitor in the Prem although Munich are probably favourites for this year's UEFA Cup. Maybe my brain is in over-drive after all the pre-season hype followed by the early-season tripe?!
Love Berbatov as we all do but he needs to sort his attitude out and get involved more on the pitch. We need him firing on all cylinders big time at the moment.

I actually though that despite playing badly, he tried very hard. He was involved, he did fight, but for once it was his usually top notch talent that let him down. He played badly, but it certainly wasn't for want of trying!

Thank heavens for small mercies. I can see a ray of sunshine!
Although it seems fishy that he flew to germany, wont play for spurs but can play for bulgaria only a few days later. Is it me or does something not add up?

Just received a textssage "Daniel Levy ha ofrecido 9 million de euros por Guti" Daniel Levy has offered 9 million euros for Guti. I live out here in Spain and my mate is a Madrid fan and normally I wouldnt give credit to this but the fact that he was able to say Daniel Levy gives it a little more credit... although could be complete bollocks.

This is just the flip side of Berbatov, last year the <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:City><st1:place>Leverkusen</st1:place></st1:City> fans said he can be sublime but sometimes things just don’t work for him and he pants. I'm sure he'll spring back to his best soon.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>

I wonder if that header at the beginning of the second half had been 2 inches to the right would anyone be questionning his form? My point is there is a really fine line (2 inches) between success and failure in this game but class like Berbatov will always suceed in the long term. Have patience, keep the faith.

Sod him being able to play for the national team.
Really pisses me off that a player can be out injured for their club, but the moment they are half-fit they can be called up by their country and are obliged to play. Take Bale as an example - not yet played a competitive game for us, yet Toshack goes out to the press saying he's going to call him up for some poxy Wales friendly. Daftness personified.

coincidentally the same game Berbatov will be 'fit' for.

Although a big loss - could be a bit of a small blessing in that Jol will now have to pick two from Defoe, Bent and Keane to play up front. Accomodating one or the other won't do.
Jol has to be brave and pick a front two for each match - also don't put Keano on de wing.
Berbatov should come back refreshed and ready to start where he left off last yr.
Also get Thudd in - the only midfielder with passing ability to thread a through ball.
Zoko and Jenas are too similiar - drop one or the other - for me Jenas based on 2 games so far

This will probably do us good. Revert back to two forwards with Bent and Keane. Berbs will come back hungry and sharp as a knife.

Once again Berba misses out on the game @ old trafford?.i am sure he was out of the game last season due to the same groin injury.i wonder when he does eventually play on that ground will he be playing in red?.but i love berba like the rest of us,it just frustrates me he misses some big games through injury.

This is exactly what happened last year. Groin injury playing for us - missed a game and played an international game - out for weeks.
I hope he learned from that and decides to give this friendly a miss.

I think that against Derby, we should use Bent and Defoe up front.
Defoe looked lively and maybe he can get a partnership going with Bent.
Keane on the bench in case we need an impact player and give the captain's armband to Jenas.
Maybe it will help him as well as Keane is not talking/ shouting at anyone to get going.
Although, they would probably give it to Robinson, but against Derby nobody will hear him from Derby's penalty area.

The media today in Bulgaria reckon his injury is serious and he'd even miss the game against Holland.Fat Bojinov been called to replace him so he is not playing against Wales that's for sure:wink:
