View Full Version : Do you know how?

A tall, balding and slightly bedraggled looking man stopped me this morning and asked me “Do you know how?”

I looked blankly at him, half confused at his question and half shocked as I recognised this man, although he was a shadow of the man I once knew. “Do I know how to what?” I eventually responded.

A blank expression spread across his ample face, almost as if he was staring beyond me at another event elsewhere-maybe in his mind? He blinked, turned away from me and began to walk away. I motioned to call him back, but before I could utter anything that resembled a word he turned to face me, smiled and nodded “I know now….” I smiled politely, albeit slightly confused and anxious as to what he would do next.

Within seconds he had vanished from sight. A few days later I saw the man again, this time he was addressing a group of people-his follower’s maybe? I joined the back of the crowd and listened intently. “I have the answers and I will prove to you that I am the one capable of answering the questions that have been posed, and then asking some of my own!” He proclaimed to the gathered group.

They were all huddled together in a small side street, the traffic of the nearby main road thundered past but the group seemed oblivious. The large man no longer looked bedraggled; he was wearing a very smart grey/silver suit and stood in front of a set of black wrought iron gates. “I have been entrusted with making this work and I will” he continued, pressing his clenched fist against his heart “I care more than anyone knows and although I have my doubters I WILL soldier on”.

A small woman could be heard yelling with joy from close to the big mans feet. “ I love you” he went on “and you love me…” a huge smile broke across his face, as he held out his hand and the small woman near his feet, jumped at the chance to touch the big man for a brief second. “Mathematicians have asked how four become two. I know! Scientists have asked how injury and physical pain can be overcome….I know too.

A balding Scotsman and his hairy armed friend have asked how we will overcome all that lies in front of us….”“You Know” the crowd chanted in unison. He smiled contently and motioned with his arm, revealing something behind him, a large golden bird, perched upon a football. The bird stood erect and proud. The big mans body language reflected that of the golden bird.“I have dared to overcome many difficult obstacles, and I will overcome this too, because my friends... TO DARE IS TO DO!”

There are fans who think Jol should go.

I would kindly ask those fans to f*** off.

I love Martin Jol. He is the best thing to happen to our football club in nearly a generation.

Heard something on Talksport about Coral stopping bets on Jol leaving as apparently a few people have been putting large bets on him doing so.. anyone know anything about this???

Cause if you do, I'll place a bet with William Hills.. but seriously, I really do hope he doesn't leave, we as supporters are to quick to forget the last two amazing seasons, because of two awful games..

Yes I posted a story early this morning (17th) regarding this, which was never put up on the site by the "powers that be" (what are the criteria for a story being posted?).

"Coral stopped taking bets on Jol to leave White Hart Lane after they were alarmed by a series of large transactions in quick succession early yesterday morning. Although they reopened the book later in the day, a spokesman for the betting company said that they were forced to take precautionary measures after becoming concerned at the "unusual timing" of the punts.
The FA said last night they would be contacting Coral early next week to ask them for any information relating to the suspension of betting.
Under the new licensing system which forms part of the 2005 Gambling Act, all bookmakers will have to share details of suspicious betting patterns with sports governing bodies from Sept 1.
But with the FA determined to avoid a major betting scandal, officials are hopeful they will volunteer to hand over any relevant evidence which will help them decide whether to launch a full investigation.
An FA spokesman added that they would also be contacting internet betting exchange Betfair, with whom the FA have a memorandum of understanding to share information, to see if they experienced any similar irregularities yesterday.

The suspicious betting on Jol was fuelled by growing uncertainty over the Dutchman's position after Spurs lost their opening two Premier League fixtures of the new season.
Jol is now under intense pressure to deliver a victory against Derby at White Hart Lane this afternoon after a meeting with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy on Wednesday where he was told in no uncertain terms that he must turn the situation around quickly.
Despite insisting that he enjoyed Levy's full support on Thursday, it is understood that relations between Jol and the club's chairman have deteriorated significantly.
After backing him with £40 million to bring in new players over the summer including Darren Bent, Gareth Bale and Kevin-Prince Boateng, Levy expected Tottenham to make a flying start to the new campaign. But with striker Dimitar Berbatov now added to his side's injury list, Jol knows he cannot afford any more slip-ups with Manchester United waiting next Sunday following today's game against Derby."

Hear Hear, and lets get behind the team as well. It does no good booing, you can see the team shrinking right in front of you and then no one wants to take responsibility.

Lets get behind the lads this afternoon and support the team we love.
