Paul Robinson insists there's no panic at rock-bottom Tottenham.

The England goalkeeper said "Am I embarrassed to be propping up the table? No. Don't forget I was relegated with Leeds!

"I must admit, it's disappointing. Give it another month and, I guarantee you, Tottenham will not be where we are right now.

"This is the biggest season for Tottenham since I've been here. We have spent a lot of money and the fans have every right to expect a lot from this squad.

"It's a big season for our manager Martin Jol as well and we have to perform for him.

"Everyone has total respect for the manager. He will tell you what he thinks but he will never criticise his players in public."

He added: "Some of the stuff being said about Spurs already is a bit bewildering - don't forget we are only two games in.

"If the first of those two defeats had happened this month and the second in November no one would have batted an eyelid."

Does anyone else find this logic a bit bizarre?

On the basis of the first two performances and the upcoming fixtures that is a big if.

If Everton had lost their first two games - would moyes be under the pressure that the media have put Jol under?

Same for Newcastle and Big Sam and to a lesser extent, Arsene Wenger, who has not won anything of note recently.

This is a media game and when they tire of it they'll move on to the next "victim".

Agree with you, but this is a different issue. The idea that a key player expects a certain number of defeats and that these two just happen to have come at the beginning of the season is not the kind of mentality to propel us in to the top four.

I don't want players to panic but can you imagine Mourinho or Ferguson accepting that kind of view after two games.

Of course. These are the same journos who have spent the whole summer bigging us up and have officially installed us as the "club mounting the challenge". It's that same old build you up to knock you down mentality. I bet they couldn't wait to stick the boot in at the first opportunity.

No, and I'm worried you think it's bizarre!

If we'd won on Tuesday and remained undefeated for a few weeks we wouldn't be hearing these ridiculous rumours/stories. Nothing bizarre about that

Except your scenario hasn't happened, isn't likely to happen and therefore doesn't represent any kind of argument whatsoever.

You might as well say "I know we lost 3-1 to Everton but if we'd won 3-1 no-one would be complaining".....duh...

What Was Robbo Suppose To Say?

What a player from a top four team would say.

That he is embarrassed to be bottom of the league given the quality of our squad and the teams we were playing.

That defeats are unacceptable at any point in the season if we are serious about qualifying for the Champions League.

If we rationalise away defeats we are just giving ourselves permission to fail..... again
