Vedran Corluka has regained consciousness after being taken to hospital following a blow to the head during Tottenham's Barclays Premier League match at Stoke.

The Croatian defender has had head and neck X-rays but appears to have suffered no serious injury.

A Tottenham spokesman: "He has regained consciousness and has had head and neck X-rays and everything appears to be okay."

Corluka was twice caught by his own goalkeeper within a minute as Heurelho Gomes tried to deal with Stoke's set-plays.

First the Croatian suffered a blow to the ribs and then after coming back on to the field caught the keeper's knee full on his chin.

Lengthy medical attention on the pitch followed before the Spurs defender left on a stretcher wearing on an oxygen mask and was taken straight into a pitch-side ambulance.

If he was so awesome then why did Stoke slice us apart with ease on more than one occasion? We remain despatate for fit Ledley King - sadly looking less & less likley that we will ever see it happen

Do we know if Corluka suffered concussion? I assume he did. Remember a while back when we had Edman suffer concussion twice in quick succession. The club were very careful about bringing him back after each episode.

I'm just wondering if Corluka will go straight back into the side or be rested for a while. We can't really afford to rest him but may have to.

Not sure if its possible to get concussion with a blow to the jaw. I'm sure its only when you clash heads  Remember, Ghaly continued playing the same game when he had his tooth knocked out. Corluka should be alright for the Bolton game i'm sure.

I thought Corluka was our best defender yesterday. Looked very composed, even when we were up against it. But he isn't great in the air. Woodgate is better in the air, but had a couple of problems yesteray, getting turned inside out. But neither Centre Back was at fault for either goal. Although Woody was lucky we didn't concede that penalty.

When you get whacked in the jaw, if you're head swivels enough, the signal between your brain and the rest of your body can be temporarily cut out, causing you to collapse in a heap. Similar to when boxers take even a small jab to the jaw, they can be knocked out from what looks like nothing.

It's a shitty feeling (especially when you regain consciousness) and can happen from even the slightest contact to almost any part of your head/neck.

Are you saying a CB was not responsible for not cutting off a striker three yards out?

I would say that That is a CB's job.

Interesting, thanks.

No. That was a fantastic cross and a pretty much unstoppable one in football. The only thing you can really do in that situation is to stop the player crossing the ball. The centre backs couldn't do anything, unless they slid in and put in their own net. Its one of those crosses that defenders hate, and thats why we should have stopped the cross coming in. Hutton tried his best at the far post, but it was a great goal.
