View Full Version : Ramos: When we play the Big Four, you'll see the real Spurs

Juande Ramos believes his Tottenham side will start picking up more points when they start playing more of the top teams.

The Londoners are now five points adrift of the Premier League drop zone following yesterday's 2-1 defeat at Stoke City making this the worst start to any season in the club's 126-year history.

But Ramos, now without a win in eight League matches, insists better times are ahead - especially against the Big Four.

Spurs entertain fellow strugglers Bolton on Sunday following their UEFA Cup trip to Italy to face Udinese, and Ramos' fighting talk will be put to the test after this with first a trip to North London rivals Arsenal on October 29 followed by a White Hart Lane clash with Liverpool three days later - then a trip to nouveau-riche Manchester City on November 9.

The odds are he'll be without Gareth Bale and MIchael Dawson for the first of those three Premier League games after both were sent off at the Britannia Stadium yesterday.

But with talk already of Croatia coach Slaven Bilic being parachuted in, Ramos is putting up a brave front.

He said: 'We played against Chelsea away and played okay and got a point, and I think playing against big teams, the team can concentrate well.

'Sometimes football is difficult to explain. We had two penalties against us at Stoke, two players sent off, some players injured.

'It was very difficult for us after the sending off in the first half but the attitude of the players was very good.'

Tottenham have two points this season, one earned at Stamford Bridge, the other a home 0-0 draw with Wigan.

However, home defeats to Hull, Sunderland and Aston Villa coupled with away reverses to Middlesbrough, Stoke and Portsmouth have left the White Hart Lane faithful shaking their heads in disbelief, especially after almost £70m has spent on new players this year.

This is the sort of thing that makes me really angry about footballers, especially in teams like Spurs.

We pay every week, they should fucking play EVERY week - not just when they can be in shop window. In modern times, every season, Spurs only seem to put out their best performances against the 'big 4', yet they still have one of the worst records against them.....

The big four will not tear us to shreds, but will beat us. If we win against them, then I will be furious - as it means we only focus for the ultra challenge.

The title is not won at Anfield or Stanford Bridge. It's won against Hull, Stoke, Villa, Blackburn and other very combative teams that lack flair, but make up for it with HEART.

I really hope Ramos didnt actually say this, because it is the most stupid, idiotic illogical thing Ive heard for a awhile, and defies any kind of logic. The way we are playing at the moment, the top four teams must be licking their lips at the thought of playing us. We would not have a hope against any one of them.

Exactly. If Ramos actually believes that, then (a) he is delusional, and (b) Spurs are in deeper sh*t than I actually thought [and that's saying something, when we have 2pts from 8 games].

Similar happened last year in French League with Lens. This team used to finish regularly in the top 5 and had a very good team...on the paper.
bad start, then beat Lyon 3-0... and finished relegated after a season struggling in the bottom. They were not playing bad, especially against the top guns, but without fighting spirit, and no luck. Everybody was thinking such team could never fall ...

If the spaniard is serious about that, I would sack him on the spot, because this means he cannot motivate the team. As for the players, if we get relegated, I would say goodbye to all the 'stars' who feel they are to good for the championship. So we can finally start playing with those who also want to go for it against the "smaller" teams.
Anyway, looking at the table, we're only 5 clear in relegation zone, so I would say there's no problem, If we would have been battered by bad luck in good performances, injuries, etcc... The thing is though, there is nothing of the kind. And looking at the games, I always have the feeling that a spurs goal is far away unless we are extremely lucky. So in conclusion, I can't see who we are actually going to beat.

Ramos really should have waited until after the liverpool and scum games to say such a thing... this will backfire, just like every thing else anyone related to spurs ever says to the press...

This is brilliant - Jol gets sacked because he is perceived as being unable to beat the top 4. Ramos is brought in to solve that problem, but loses to the other 15 teams. And probably doesn't beat the top 4 regularly either. You couldn't make it up. Brilliant.

What worries me more if we do get relegated is that we wont bounce back after one season.Look at Southampton and Charlton.

More pertinently, look at bigger clubs such as Leeds and Sheffield Wednesday.
