Luka Modric believes it will take a team effort to turn our season around - and he is fully confident we can do so.

The Croatian midfielder is starting to get to grips with the English game following his summer move from Dinamo Zagreb, but he insists it's not about individuals at the moment.

Luka is instead focused on getting that elusive league victory to give our season a much-needed kick-start.

"The mood in the squad is ok, but everyone knows what the situation is and nobody expected to be in this position," he said.

"The next league game against Bolton could be the turning point in our season if we win because things will look so much better.

"We believe in ourselves and know we can win games because we have enough quality to do so, even though we haven't shown it yet.

"It's difficult to assess my own performances at the moment. I know I can play better, but I think we all can.

"It's not about individuals. If we play better as a team, then we can expect better days and better results."

Up next for Juande Ramos' side is our opening group game of this season's UEFA Cup against Italian side Udinese on Thursday.

"The UEFA Cup is also an important competition for us and Udinese are a good team, so it will be a difficult game," added Luka.

"European games are different to league games because we may get more time on the ball and that could give us an opportunity to express ourselves."

It's not so difficult to assess your recent performances, Luka:

- Poor distribution
- Off the pace
- Lightweight and easily dispossesed
- Not much evidence of bite and tenacity

I can see us doing well in Europe tonight though; as he says, it's a different ball game & to me, it's the pace of the premiership that certain players and Ramos are struggling to get to grips with.

Yes in Spain Sevilla was one of the fastest teams around, but here it's standard. We only lost to them because Berbatov and Dawson missed two 100% sitters in the second leg.

Ramos must understand the game in order to succeed. I hope he does.

did you really say 'bro no'?

well we've all followed football for a combined duration of 50billion years and we think Luka deserves more time before we decide if he is or isn't good enough.

i wonder if im the only one that thought that we are selling guys like tanio etc who are all experienced players!! & replacing them with kids!!! that are all 5 foot 8!!! & yes im am 41 fuckin one & the way your talking is like we signed pavel neved!!!!

modric is a decent player but he is unproven & only a fuckin idiot would have paid 16.5 mil for him at this stage in his career!!! & our league position shows that the players brought in were wrong!!!

Berbatov's shot was from the 18yrd lane and Dawson's was at an angle on the half volley-hardly sitters.
