Gus Poyet insists Tottenham need to stay strong as they look to get themselves out of trouble.

Spurs have endured their worst start to a league campaign in their history as they sit bottom of the Premier League with just two points to their name.

The White Hart Lane No.2 says the players and staff just have to keep working harder as pressure mounts on the North London club.

"I think it is simple," he told Sky Sports.

"We are doing everything we can to put it right - we have no other option.

"We are working, we are making sure the players stick to it and try and win the next game."

Poyet and boss Juande Ramos were helpless on Sunday as Spurs lost 2-1 at Stoke, with Michael Dawson and Gareth Bale sent off and Vedran Corluka stretchered off.

"Of course, if it was easy - two or three weeks ago we would have put it right - there are accidents, look at the game at the weekend," he said.

"No one expected a game like that, we went there looking to win the game and after 15 minutes are one man down and 1-0 down as well, and there are just so many accidents in the second half and that is why we are in the situation.

"When you are down you don't get any help and you always have the most difficult games."

Poyet also hinted that it may be an issue that many of the Spurs players have never been involved with life at the wrong end of the table.

"It is all about winning, but you need to be strong - you learn a lot - as a player I have been in that situation a few times so I know what it is like, but I don't know how many players we have got who have been in that situation," he concluded.

Well I can name a few that we could have had with that type of experience - Robbie Keane, Steed Malbranque, Pascal Chimbonda.

However I don't think we should panic and start pointing fingers. We should support the players as much as possible and stay positive. I couldn't believe Sunday's game it was just one of those games where everything went wrong. It was blowing a gale, the pitch hadn't been watered (so it looked like the players were dribbling through a field of wheat) and G Bale had a brain explosion 17 minutes into the game.

Bolton at home is a completely new game so get behind the team - COYS!!

Can somebody please outline what Poyet brings to the table apart from the occasional interview

He's right most players haven't been in this situation yet, but this conclusion is a tad worrying, and if he even doesn't know what can we expect?

If he says"we have to be strong" one more time i will personally hunt him down rip off Jenas's leg and beat him with it!!!!!

WAKE UP!!!!! GUS!!! we are in the shit and need steel in the side not the fairies we currently have to get us out this mess. We are too lightweight and the side has been bought to accomodate a european style of football, quick and technical and as we all know that doesnt work in the premiership, you need balance of power and the ability to keep the ball, all the sides have it, chelsea have mikel and essien liverpool have mascherano and gerrard people who can put a foot in when needed and keep the ball when up against it, we dont have the players who can physically dominate a team and we dont have the forwards to make our possesion count, in at least 60% of the games this season we have had up to 65% possesion but no end product hense the reason while the style needs to accomodate the facts! These are we dont have the firepower to play like last season so we have to cut the cloth to suit the situation and adapt till january when we can strengthen.

I can put money on us doing ok tomorrow in europe beacuse it will be less physical and more technical, but come sunday against bolton it will be very different.

We have to learn to win ugly, i know we all want to play the spurs way but you have to adapt, unfortunatley we sold players like teemu and steed who are grafters and would be ideal for this situation, not world beaters but good honest footballers who dont bottle it.

I just really hope the penny drops with the managment and we some fire in our belly on sunday COYS!!!!!!!

Very funny, but makes you wonder if there is an anti-Semitic undertone here.

I agree !
Thats why i didn't see the sense in buying Modric for the EPL,
On Sunday when Stoke scored, they started to sit back and let us play and thats when Modric seem to come alive,i also think thats why we play better against top four teams, because they will let you play!

THIS LOT WON'T

Sunday's game was not about accidents. The reason Bale was sent off was because we were playing sh1t up to that point. None of our players could control the ball and were second best. Bales error followed an miss timed jump from Woody, then poor positioning by corluka, then poor control by bale. Bale had already miscontrolled the ball a few times prior.

Why did it take lennon 25 mins to touch the ball, surely after 5 mins he should have started to hunt for the ball rather than stand on the touch line with his gloves in the air. There was soooo much space on the right hand side, why didn't the coaches swap bentley and lennon rather than let the game dwindle away.

I don't see any good ideas coming from the coaches or the staff. The only accident i can see is LEVY
