Tottenham manager Juande Ramos believes a successful run in the Uefa Cup is as important as their battle for Premier League survival.
Spurs are yet to win a Premier League game this season and travel to Udinese for their first group game on Thursday.
"Both competitions are important," Ramos said. "The most important is the Uefa Cup because it is our next game."
The Spaniard also revealed that Ledley King can now only play one game a week because of ongoing knee problems.
The continued absence of defender King through injury and fellow defender Vedran Corluka, who is cup-tied, has further added to Ramos's worries.
"The problem with the Uefa Cup is that it is not possible to play Corluka and Ledley King (regularly)," Ramos added.
"We only have Jonathan Woodgate and Michael Dawson as alternatives and we need to think in both competitions.
"Corluka can only play in the Premier League so we have to play him in that competition.
"On Sunday, if it is possible to play Ledley we will, but he needs 10 days to recover.
"We use the players in the best condition. It is impossible to play the same team, it depends on injuries and suspensions."
Spurs have made their worst start to a Premier League season and Ramos says that each game takes on its own significance due to the predicament they find themselves in.
"On Friday, the most important thing is the Premier League."

What I'd like to know is whether King will always be this way or if it is just this season?

I think noone knows. The knee is not the part you want to get injured. I had a serious knee-injury myself in 2005. Tried 4-5 times to make a comeback, but have just had setbacks every time. So now I have retired at the age of 27

King was recently quoted as saying he has had this injury since his début for Spurs. So I think it's safe to say the injury is not going to go away in a hurry unless he has some miracle operation.
But the problem seems to be the experts are having trouble diagnosing exactly what the cause is, so I can't see an op happening any time soon. Although if they do identify it then we could have a quick resolution, who knows.
The fact that he used to play regularly but now can't seems to imply the problem has got worse over time as well.
It's heartbreaking to see a guy with so much talent being stifled in this way.

I was watching a documentary called the six million dollar man the other day, very interesting. Was thinking how some of that technology could possibly help our Ledly?!<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Guys, no matter how much we all think of ledders, we cant keep someone on in his condition! He has been great for us, but we have to look at the club and he is not playing. I think its time he called his spurs career a day! I mean this has been going on for too long now ...... sorry ledders!

On a serious note, he may have to retire. as brilliant as he was and bar the odd brief cameo Captain Marvel appearance, this hanging on, waiting for Ledley to get fit can only have a detrimental affect on delivering a sound, constant centre back pairing.
All very sad. Its not like anyone is going to put an offer in for him. BUt I think he should be put back in the pecking order of selection, so that we can bring through someone for the future. At best he´s only got a couple of sporadic years ahead of him and that really isn´t going to benefit the First XI.
I´d have him as emergency fourth centre back. Concentrate on making Corluka and Woody a pairing and exchange Dawson for someone with a bit of a footballing brain and composure. King should be made honary captain for life, have a stand named after him, study management in the same way Poyet has and become our manager in about 10 years time.
God bless the King.

Sad to say but let's face it, King's fecked. He's been like it for ages so clearly at his age it's not just going to go away. Sad but true. Were in such a mess it's not even funny. Buying players who can't play in certain games where these are going to be players which we would have neeeded to use. Were a joke and I cannot see a light at the end of the tunnel yet.
But Ill be watching this evening and going on Sunday so COYS, lets hope we get some luck cos I think we will need it!!

Screw the UEFA Cup, The FA Cup and The League Cup. Who cares about any of them now?!
1. Concentrate on the league.
2. Play King in league games only.
3. Put our youth team/reserves out for cup games. Who knows, they might actually win something!
Its hardly 'revealing' that Ledley can NOW only play one game a week.
Pretty obvious really!

I care about them all, believe we are quite capable of winning one this year.It wont be long before we improve our league position and our focus can be turned towards cup success.

Just how are we 'quite capable' of winning a cup this year? The only English team we have beaten was an absolutely appaling Newcastle side that were only slightly worse than us...?
We have Liverpool in the next round of the Carling and who would bet against RK scoring against us? Trying to stay positive but its getting harder every game!

The cups are something from which we can build up some form, but they are also a distraction and an unwanted opportunity for injuries. So for those reasons I still say screw the cups!

Eek Typical journalist. A week is now 10 days. Where the fuck do they get these hacks from.
On a serious note I wonder how long the club have known about this and can't we give Rocha a squad number in the meantime. He's no worse than Dawson.

Another dismal show, our new signings are poor, and we lack soo much in so many areas. I know udinese are a good side, but it's getting silly. For the first time this year, I actually don't think it's worth giving ramos time.

Despair is setting in. I don't have words any more, unless they are expletives.
What the fuck is happening???
Where is the heart? The balls for a fight? What the hell is going on at half time after they put in a reasonable performance in the 1st half and then they come out for the 2nd as if they have lost already?
AAAAAAArrrrggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhh,fuck!!!!!
Why is king not playing in the league?
Why is the gooner commoli being allowed to decimate our squad?
WHAT THE FUCK IS HAPPENING TO MY CLUB???????

I remember being at the Leicester game in 1976,last game of the season,we won 2-0 but were still relegated.
I remember being at Wembley in 1987 for the FA Cup final against Coventry,on my birthday, and we all know that result.
But i don't ever remember feeling as low about my club as i do now!!!
