Tottenham Hotspur are set to lose summer signing Roman Pavlyuchenko for three days, with the Russian International set to put his new political responsibilities with Russia before Spurs.

Russian president Vladimir Putin made 26-year-old Pavlyuchenko a deputy for the United Russia party in his hometown of Stavropol and has been inited by the governor Valeri Gaievski to attend a session on sports development, with the former Spartak Moscow striker insisting he will carry out any political commitments, despite now playing in the Premier League with Spurs.

"I'm not going to give up my seat,” Pavlyuchenko said.

“Sadly I couldn't come to Stavropol for the election results, although I very much wanted to.

“Despite the need for me to be in Britain often, I'm not going to be absent from Stavropol for long.”

The sports session in December falls just before the Premiership clash with Manchester United at White Hart Lane on the 13th, with Pavlyuchenko to be absent in the three days beforehand, which will almost certainly mean the forward will miss the visit of the European Champions.

Ironically, Tottenham’s main summer transfer target Andrei Arshavin was also made a deputy in St Petersburg, but resigned from the post immediately, with it understood that not all of Russia’s sports stars are as enthusiastic about this initiative as Pavlyuchenko.

If this is true then blow me down, another problem with what looks to be another rushed buy,

Sell the guy back to a team in russia in january, i was willing to give him time to settle etc but we dont need these extra destractions he seems to think of himself as more than just another over paid footballer.

Shame i wanted him to succeed

Who cares!! I think he is very, very average at best! His touch is appalling! The only problem is this is true of our other striker!

In the good old days we had the small striker position covered by Defoe-Keane scoring circa 35 goals per season. And the tall striker position scoring 15- 25 goals per season.

Now we've got a tall Russian who will never be in Europe and thinks he'll only be in Britain "often".

Am I missing something here? Surely the club will not let him leave. He can't just sod off for three days whilst he has a job to do here.

He's only just starting to learn English, give the guy a break.

i think someone needs to point out to our Russian friend that under the circumstances this probably isnt the smartest thing to do.

I know things get twisted by the media but I've heard and seen enough to persuade me that he should go in January . EDIT : AFTER we have secured a replacement !

Forget about giving the guy a break , he's not interested in being here so who are we to stand in his way .

Moral of the story : don't sign players unless they really want to be here .

I've just finished watching the sixth series of 24 and if that told me nothing else about signing Russian politicians, then it was: Don't. You're asking for trouble.

*Goes off to post my box-set to Mr. D Comolli so we don't make the same mistake by signing Middle-Eastern or Chinese players in future. Or Jack Bauer's dad.*

Huge mistake signing the bloke in all honesty, I knew it'd be like this with him and never wanted him!

He has a reputation back in Russia for his off field exploits with booze etc and a total lack of work ethic.

So glad to see our infamous scouting network pulled this one off, must have been so hard sitting in front of the tv watching him score two goals against England and a couple in the last Euro championships.

If this is true we need to get rid of him, this is the problem with attitude we have within the club, this mindset seems to have been set after the Carling Cup win last season though when the whole club decided to pack up and go on an extended holiday whilst we kept turning up watching the same old dross.

Alan Brazil read out a mail I sent him the other day on TalkSport where I said the problem has always been there, it's only become more apparent now because of our inability to score goals which hid the fact the we leaked them like a drain.

We need a proven striker and the only one that we could get our hands on immediately would be Ronaldo. If he cost us 100k a week and scores 15 goals then so be it, it might well preserve our EPL status because if we go down I can see a Leeds United on the cards.....

This is the problem I have.......Pavlova wasnt scouted and uncovered as the right replacement for Berbatov he only came to prominence during Russias' qualifying campaign and even then he only made any real contribution in one game vrs England. He was a last minute panic buy and a bloddy expensive one at that.

I expect him to be off in the summer irresective of which division we are in
