Lens captain Seydou Keita has revealed he has received interest from Internazionale and Premiership outfit Tottenham in the past.

The talented defensive midfielder has also confirmed he may leave the Ligue One club next summer if he can find a bigger European side to play for, despite having just signed a one-year contract extension at the Stade Bollaert.

The 26-year-old Malian international told L'Equipe: "Last season I had contacts.

"The interest from Internazionale was very serious.

"My agent went to Milan but the case of match fixing slowed down the negotiations leaving doubts about the future of the club."

Keita also revealed that Spurs took a keen interest.

"I also had contact with Tottenham," he added.

"The coach wanted to keep me here, the chairman gave his agreement for me to leave next summer so it is up to me. To go higher I need to be good on the pitch."

We dont need another defensively minded CM anymore, so I cant see anything coming from this.

are there any lens players we dont get linked with? i hope comolli casts his net further than this one club, i think we should be taking only there stars like thomert and like we did with assou ekotto, i dont want any old shit they got, after all not like they have been taking the french league by storm, oh and for fucks sake stop with all the central midfielders until we get rid of some we already have, i think our staff must have that illness

Probably our interest in him in the summer was only as another option incase Zokora didn't sign. It's gettiing close to January, so the twice annual silly season is just slipping into first gear

This is a player I really rate, and he is a quality player for sure, but he is not in our Scoutingmanagement database, because he is not regarded as a "talent" anymore at the age of 26 years old.

I would be happy if Tottenham managed to sign him.

Agreed, cant see us wanting another CM or a defencive one when we have 7 good central midfield players.
