View Full Version : Wenger: Spurs cannot beat us

Arsene Wenger is confident Arsenal will beat bitter rivals Tottenham on Saturday and revive their faltering league form.

The Gunners saw their title hopes all but disappear following a second straight away defeat last night, when they went down 2-1 at Fulham and finished the match with 10 men.

Wenger had suggested this next run of games - which also includes a crunch Champions League trip to Porto next week before the clash against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on December 10 - would prove to be the "moment of truth" for his side's campaign.

While stopping short of conceding the Premiership crown last night, privately the French coach will know it would take something of a minor miracle for Arsenal to overhaul the 16-point deficit on leaders Manchester United, even with a match in hand.

Spurs were one of the top-flight clubs not to be involved in midweek action - a quirk of the fixture list which certainly did not impress the Arsenal manager.

Wenger, though, insists his men will be more than ready for the challenge which awaits them in the first north-London derby to be played at the new 60,000-seater Emirates Stadium.

"We have a difficult game coming up against Tottenham, and I do not agree at all with the way the fixtures have been organised - it is a farce," bemoaned Wenger.

"I cannot understand how the Premier League can organise midweek fixtures in between Champions League games.

"They are very creative because to get that through anywhere else in Europe, you will have big problems."

Wenger added: "We play now against opponents who did not play this week - but we will beat them."

Amazing, he's trying to convince himself they'll beat us and yet making excuses for a defeat at the same time the arrogant prat. Feel free to abuse him folks

I hope bmj shows that quote to the players before the game as well as the ones from last season's game at the lane when he said that we were an inferior team to them. We have shown them over the past season and a bit that we are as good as them and in fact we have been much the better side in the past 2 games.

They are a one man band, they have some decent players but they are one-dimensional, if we can hold out for the first 25 minutes we can win this game.

I can't bloody wait!

They are going to say that, the players will say there confident, but in a situation like their in where self belief is concerned what you say and what you feel inside are two different things, we need to get in their faces, double up on them and close them down fast, when we get the first goal they WILL crumble but if we let them play they will get confident.
Their prime for a beating but this game is all about tactics and our players carrying them out.

scum 0 Spurs 2.

COYS!! cant wait till saturday.

fuckin asshole he is, if we had a uefa cup game tonite would he be sayin how unfortunate it was for us and they had an advantage for the weekend? No chance. we have played the same amount of league games as them now so it is fair, somewhere along the line we had played an extra game and they would have a had a bigger rest than us one week which is prob why were 3 points behind them,

I think that we will score first like we always seem to do, but the danger in holding them off in the first 25 min isnt the key its holding them off in the last 20 min as they always seem to score a goal or two against us after the 70min mark.

Has anyone got that little gif that morphed Wenger's face into that of Gary Glitter's? I had it on my PC but lost it when my hard drive died - well worth another run out after those comments.

All we can do is play to our potential and get this away monkey off our back. It would be the perfect place to do it and with a bit of bite in midfield I feel we can take all of the points.

His comment is obviously designed to boost what must be the rather rattled confidence of his team. The fact that he has to say it at all speaks volumes. I agree with StokeSpur that if we get at them, don't allow them to play we've got a good chance. An early goal would help, too!

Exactly what I was thinking. In years gone by he'd have felt no need to say 'we will win', that he did is surely a sign that he's less than confident about the result.

That said I don't think anyone is, I can imagine a dozen credible scenarios, from a narrow victory either way to one side or the other finally clicking. TBH I'm trying not to think about it until tomorrow, otherwise my mind just goes round in circles.

He is a man that knows his transfer policy is yet to bear fruit (and may never) and despite what they are saying in public their board must be well pissed off that they are so off the pace this season (and last, for that matter).

I'd love for us to give him a kick in the balls by taking 3 points on sat. Even better, I'd like to see BMJ give him a kick in the balls. Or a headbutt. Or both.

You know what, let him have is rants. He is reverting back to his old tactics assummed with Ferguson of disrespecting a team before they play them.

Actually this is quite a compliment. These days Arse are not on the same level as Manure or Chelski and therefore he cant be so arrogant. The fact that he does it with us is therefore a compliment as he sees us as a threat.

Thats my spin anyway.

COYS - My first visit to the Emirates tomorrow, I'll try and block the loo!
