Chelsea captain John Terry has been charged with improper conduct by the Football Association following comments he made about referee Graham Poll.

Terry claimed Poll had said Chelsea needed to be "taught a lesson" before receiving his second yellow card in the 2-1 defeat at Tottenham on 5 November.

The FA said in a statement: "This claim is denied by Graham Poll. "The charge has been brought on the basis that Terry's comments question Poll's integrity."

The FA statement added: "Therefore this constitutes improper conduct. He has until 15 December to respond to the charge."

The referee has also been cleared by the FA of saying anything inappropriate towards Chelsea players during the same match. The statement continued: "Responses sought from Ashley Cole, Frank Lampard, Chelsea FC and the match officials confirm that Poll did not say that Chelsea needed 'to be taught a lesson'. There will no action against any parties on this matter."

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, who also questioned Poll's decision making after the Spurs game, will not face any formal disciplinary action.

I for one support Poll, its high time referee's were harder with players that 'bathe' in a pool of money each night they get home.

The 'Zokora diving incident', I, like so many other yid on here condoned it. It's time to make this a game of LAW'S not rules.

Fair play to Poll, keep it up, don't feel intimidated by any club G14 or not-- lets put authority back into football!!! (For the good of the sport we love!)

Can't remember who posted the chant in the forum but i love the idea of the chant for G.Poll.....

When a player is shown a yellow card by Poll...."2 more and you'll be sent off" (to the tune of 1.0 to the scumbags)

Good to see the FA sticking up for Poll, glad that such accusations get treated with the contempt they deserve. Even Terry's teamates denied Poll said anything. Case closed.
