RUMOURS
Spurs are ready to up the stakes in their pursuit of young Derby midfielder Giles Barnes by launching a £2 million bid in January for the player.
source - all3points
According to reports over the weekend, Spurs are aiming to make Barnes the latest acquisition in line with their transfer policy of signing the brightest young British talent.
A report in The People on Sunday suggested that Liverpool and Everton are also interested in signing Barnes but that Spurs willingness to pay the £2 million asking price and the fact the clubs have a good relationship following the sale and subsequent loan back of Tom Huddlestone will swing a deal in Spurs favour.

We need to buy good young players and then get them accustomed to top level football asap.
Look at Arsenal on Saturday. Young players BUT established players.

Blimey - another midfielder to throw into the mix. We can't work out who to play each week as it is. Think we may need to make some decisions as to which midfielders to keep and which to sell in January.
Sorry for the moan - am feeling seriously down.

what do you mean another midfielder??!! Our midfield is utter crap; exactly the areas where we need to get rid of a few and get a couple in. As I said yesterday, only Lennon and the kaiser are worth keeping out of what we have the at the moment (although steed will hopefully start having an influence as well).
Anyway from what I hear this guy can play left. We're surely an attractive option for the young guy considering he's got a good chance of making our team (what with the shitbags ahead of him) and he's got his old mate the kaiser to get chummy with again.

Yeh Giles Barnes is an attacking left midfielder/winger. When I have seen him play a couple of times, he has looked like an excellent prospect for our left side.

Lets try and get Gareth Bale from Soton too. I might get slated but think Ekotto looks way out of his depth!

The only important question is whether he really is a wonderkid. I wonder. Let's just spend another £2million and find out.

I agree with the idea of getting Gareth Bale, and it's surprising that we haven't been linked with him yet!

Sounds fair to me, he was woeful against the arse and not for the first time this season, infact he is our weak link, one on one he gets beaten time and again, even against Leverkusen when they brought on Paul Freir (spelling?) he was gettin rinsed over and over.... now ill probably get staleted!!!!

We go from one weak link (Stalteri) to another Assou Ek. He seems too cock sure for my liking, too interested in chewing his gum, too far off his man too often and doesn't look like he gives a monkeys. I liked Erik Edman, but moving on we need a Chimmyboda for Left back.
I won't go on to replace the whole team, but do agree with many comments about Keano. Running around like a headless chicken proving you have fight and willingness often does the team shape more harm than good. How many other top temas have their striker running about like that? They don't coz they have a shape and understand each others jobs and trust their midfield to win the ball....and and and...
I could go on and on and on but thats simply a Cashburton hangover.

Folks, blaming either fullback misses the glaring obvious. They got sod all cover from their respective halves. Wenger might be many things but exposed a rather large highway down both flanks. Doubling up on fullbacks without cover.
Sorry to be the bringer of a note of doom. But why other teams haven't realised that if you push two down the left, Aaron hasn't got an answer and gets marooned. Up until now teams seem to have only addressed Aaron as a threat, doubling up on him in their own half, not as a defensive lightweight, and returning the favour in our half....expect to see more of the same.
For half an answer, Keane drops back to the left half when not in possession. Something he had a rather unsuccesful trial at on the w/end.
As for the middle....:bang:

We should look for someone in the class of Matt Taylor (Portsmouth), got a funny feeling they will not sell their best player. He looks good a left back, and can play on the left wing, he not bad at free kicks and corners. but is a great tackler of the ball. come on you spurs spend the Carrick cash on a good left back, like we did on chimbonda, and he was a great buy, may have to pay seven million, but he is a class premiership player and future England player. Sorry Ashley Cole, He is better then you

ekotto has had a very good start to the season. yes, he had a nightmare against the scum, but considering he was thrown in at the deep end, he has performed remarkably well in my eyes. i can't believe people are starting to junp on his back after just one bad game.
and anyone saying we need a chimbonda for the left is clearly ignoring the fact that it was our chimbonda on the right that screwed up the offside trap for the opener!
i dont know why we keep doing this we spend 10 mil on berb then buy a reserve in mido 3-4mil? yet we spend peanuts on a position we know we have to fill left full back.chimb was a good buy we knew we needed a rb and we got one.the money we spent on mido we could have bid for barry, taylor or bridge.had we got one of them we would have arguably the best back 5 in the premiership.instead weve got a striker whos played how much 200 mins of footbal all season?did or do we really need him especially when we have yougster knocking on the door i.e.pekhart,dixon and bernard.

I really think a lot of people are putting too much into Ekotto's poor weekend performance. Arsenal very cleverly picked out our weakest side with the recently injured Malbranque and the new Boy Ekotto, and exposed us. It was Ekotto's first derby, and Ljunb*rg can be a real handful although not exactly a likable one.
Up until now Ekotto has been inconsistent, but has proved real ability and promise in my opinion. He is no Chimbonda, but does not deserve to be slated for his performance so far.

He's a right winger/striker actually, not seen him play left wing once, would be a great signing tho, he's a top quality player!

I hope we do get him as it is in line with the clubs transfer policy and he sounds a good prospect but he is not the answer in the short term, he's only 17 after all, and would need to make a big stop up to the PL. Although Lennon has done it, so it is possible.
There are going to be so many clubs after Bale we may struggle to secure his signature, unless he has taken note that we sign a lot of British talent and give them a chance.
