Eidur Gudjohnsen admitted he was excited at the prospect of joining Spurs the moment Harry Redknapp sounded him out on the move. The Icelandic forward has joined us from Monaco after successful spells at Bolton, Chelsea and Barcelona, where he helped Barca to a historic La Liga, Copa Del Rey and Champions League treble last season.
Unavailable for our FA Cup replay at Leeds as he wasn't with us for the initial tie, Eidur scored twice in his first appearance in a Spurs shirt - his first after less than a minute - as we beat Dagenham & Redbridge 4-1 in a training ground friendly on Tuesday and is in the frame for the big one against Villa in the Premier League on Saturday.
"Harry Redknapp is a big character and the turn around since he arrived at Spurs is something to respect and admire," said Eidur.
"When I spoke to him and he said he had an interest in bringing me here I was very excited straight away.
"Maybe people who follow the situation know that I had two options, equal options and this is the choice I made. I hope I've made the right choice and now it's up to me to show that I can be an influence and help this team look up in the table.
"There are a lot of talented players here and I hope I can bring my experience to the team and play a big part in winning games between now and the end of the season.
"It's a great feeling to be back and in England and I could sense the atmosphere again after just one session. It's fair to say I've found big motivation again and I'm very focused on doing all I can to help the team."
So what of the rumours that Eidur was a Spurs fan as a young boy?
"Yes, I've always said it," he smiled, before explaining. "I started following Spurs because my father had an old tape of some old Tottenham games and I used to wake up in the morning and watch it.
"There was also an Icelandic player (Gudni Bergsson) here a few years ago and that kept the link going. So yes, I did use to follow Tottenham when I was younger."
