Peter Crouch was left to reflect on a frustrating afternoon against a resolute Villa defence in Saturday's goalless draw.

Try as we might, we couldn't find a way past the best defence in the Barclays Premier League with the likes of Richard Dunne, James Collins and goalkeeper Brad Friedel all outstanding.

Friedel notably denied Ledley King, Tom Huddlestone, David Bentley and Jermain Defoe and it seemed whenever we had a shooting chance, a Villa body would block it.

"Yes, it was really frustrating," said Peter. "We did enough to win the game, we had more possession, created more chances and it was disappointing not to get the win I thought we deserved.

"We certainly created the chances. We got ourselves into shooting positions and whenever we got a shot off Richard Dunne or James Collins was there to make a block. If we got past them, the goalkeeper was fantastic as well.

"They defended well, lots of last-ditch tackles and blocks and it was a case of a frustrating day for us.

"It was one of those days at White Hart Lane. We had all the play, a lot of chances and the crowd was fantastic, everyone was willing the ball in but it wasn't to be."

'wasn't to be' 'their keeper had a blinder' 'luck wasn't with us' 'woke up on the wrong side of the bed' and whatever future articles planned by the official Site are a frustrating cop out. Cut it out with the 'please feel sorry for me' apologies/piss weak excuses.

The team wasn't good enough and it appears the players attitude is inadequate. I don't condone it but I want to see a player trash an away change room next time they lose.. or even draw! We are pissing away a perfectly good chance of qualifying for the Champs League.

Agreed, Im fed up with this sort of "oh well, we did our best but it wasnt our day, next time eh?" attitude, I want them to come off the pitch bloody furious and talking angry, not philosophical about the score and yet more points dropped. The players are too comfortable, if they were playing for their wages it might be different! :bang:

I just want to say about all of the above posts. You're the reason why Spurs fans have a reputation of moaning/whingeing and never being happy.

As the table stands we are very close to achieving that 4th place we long for. We have outclassed Villa twice, Everton and although however frustrating it is not to have won these games, I consider our team one of the best we've had for decades. We play attacking football that is pleasing on the eye, we have alternative types of play with our squad.

I, myself, thought Crouch was imperious in the air on the weekend. His flicks were effective, he did all that was asked of him and we had plenty of opportunities.

I've been reading these boards for years and it amazes me the two-facedness and utter lack of true support there is for our team.

Just a couple of things,

Weve outclassed villa twice but have not beaten them
Everton had half a team out injured when we drew 2-2.
Bolton are crap this year we drew 2-2
Lost 1-0 at home to Stoke
Lost 1-0 at home to Wolves!
Drew 0-0 at a poor Fulham
Drew 1-1 at Brum, couldnt finish it off.

apart from the 1st game of the season weve not picked up any points from any of the top four under Harry,
1-3 manure
3-0 to chelski
3-0 the gooners
2-0 liverpool

I like Harry a lot and think he's done a good job so far but i also think he is too limited for our club, Its my opinion that Harry lacks the tactical nouse to beat some type of teams, it seems their managers set their teams up to stop us but he cant do anything about it, not using any subs against villa said a lot.

I'm not confident about some of his signings either but thats just my opinion, at the end of the day we all support Spurs but some look a little deeper than the surface rather than just blindly follow the herd.

Each to their own i say.

Admittedly Crouch does put in a shift, i'll give him that but he simply shouldn't be starting for Spurs. He is average (at best) in every department and if it wasn't for his height he'd be no more than a championship player. I don't like the way we play with him in the side and if I was still paying .£50 odd per game (thankfully i'm not) i'd be pretty pissed watching Dawson hoof it up to him every few minutes hoping one of his flicks might reach a team mate. That is not how the game should be played gentlemen Granted, when you need a goal in the latter stages of a game this is acceptable but to employ these tactics from the start when you've got midfielders like Huddlestone, Modric, Krancjar and Lennon to name but some, is in footballing terms, criminal. We have been playing some good football too but this has been inspite of Crouch being in the side and certainly not because of it. He needs to be benched as soon as possible as we are far more effective when we keep it on the ground and the stats from the start of the season when he wasn't playing prove this.

why do spurs fans always expect to be the best.every team has slipped up this year.we are no different.we were just getting away from the RELEGATION zone this time last year and now we are 1 point of 4th people are still not happy! yes it would be nice to replace crouch with drogba or bentley with kaka.but we are tottenham ffs!

You're displaying the kind of attitude that people are complaining about. It's about having a winning mentality and our players don't have it.

We are not top 4 quality yet, these teams have the knowledge and experience to do this every year.

We are miles ahead of the the 2nd group of Prem teams and have smashed Villa both times (in gameplay) and Man City...

We are not far away, so to start again and get rid of the manager, to be honest is a fcking clueless comment. Stability is KEY .... :bang:

You are displaying the kind of attitude which makes Spurs fans the most fickle in the league. We are 1 POINT from 4th ... r u mad ? The season isnt even over yet.

well said! i do wonder where we get this expectation to be amazing.ive supported spurs 20 years and i would guess on average since then our league position has been about 11 so id take us where we are in a heatbeat.course we can hope for more, but that not what people are doing.they are slagging off hr calling him a prat and wanting crouch to be the next pele!get behind your team and believe in redknapp cause we cant do much better that him.unless you think hiddink and morinho will be breaking down doors to manage us!

Spurs began quite some time before 20years and way before the EPL - then look at our historical finishing position which is significantly higher than 11th.

There's nothing 'fickle' about wanting Spurs to be the best. I would be fickle if I was the kind of fan that thinks we're going to win the league after one good result and the next week wants the manager sacked if we lose or don't score 5 against the bottom team in the league.

I am neither of those extremes. I want Spurs to be the best and to do that you need to recognise your strengths and weaknesses.

I can't see how having a 'shrug your shoulders' attitude to losing matches we should be winning is going to be benefcial?

You're wrong millsey. We should be aiming at nothing less than being 'number one'; otherwise we will always settle for mediocrity. It is just unreasonable to expect it (yet).

I am more fortunate than most in that I have seen our team win FA cups, league cups, and UEFA cups. I understand that this is a great club and know what it is capable of. To aim for anything less than greatness just isn't acceptable.

ok im with you that we can aim to achieve it and if fans on here were saying i want to finish first then fine.but many people think its our right and expect it.id prefer it if we got behind our team more often and didnt end up slagging of crouch or harry every other week.
