Brazil midfielder Sandro has announced that his proposed transfer to Tottenham has collapsed.

Harry Redknapp made a £6.5million move for the Internacional star during the winter transfer window and looked to have got his man after personal terms were agreed.

But the move never materialised as his club wanted to keep him for their campaign in the Copa Libertadores - South America's equivalent of the Champions League.

And while Sandro, 20, admits it is possible the deal could be revived during the summer, the transfer is now firmly off and he does not want to be distracted by further speculation.

'There were negotiations between Internacional and Tottenham and I did not want to talk about it,' he told FinalSports.

'Today, I am an Inter player and it gets kind of boring talking about another team and a possible transfer to another league.

'Of course, there is a possibility that I will leave in the middle of the year but I do not know how things are with Inter and Tottenham.

'What matters now, is the window is closed and I'm here at Internacional.

'I am not thinking about what will happen in six months. I have to think about today. And today, for me, is Internacional.

'I do not know any more and I think this story has to die for me. So I can be thinking 100 per cent about here at Inter.

'To me, the story about Tottenham has died. So, let's talk again in the middle of the year if it will ever happen. I cannot be thinking 'Tottenham, in six months'.

'I cannot do that because it can lower my level of performance and they wouldn't want me anymore.'

The holding midfielder made his Brazil debut during a World Cup qualifier last September and is seen as a potential long-term successor to former Arsenal star and World Cup-winner Gilberto Silva in the position.

If Sandro plays well in the WC he'll be snapped up by a bigger club?

Having read about how Jones ghosted past our central midfield last night, Sandro is exactly the type of player we need. Sort out the money with Inter, arrange to sign him in time for pre-season, and stop pissing around!!!!

How has it collapsed. We can't sign and play him now, but he mentions himself it is something for the summer.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.. Sandro saying "i don't want to talk about it" to a rent-a-quote journo to shut him up asking about the Spurs move, then the rent-a-quote journo making up this pile of horse manure saying "deal is dead" reminds me of a scene in Life Of Brian..

Brian: "I'm not the messiah!"
Crowds: "Only the true messiah denies his divinity!"
Brian: "What sort of chance does that give me? Alright then, I am the messiah"
Crowds: "He is, he is the messiah!"

Aside from that - this ignored final quote means 1. it's still on, and 2. that Sandro sounds dedicated and professional -

'I cannot do that because it can lower my level of performance and they wouldn't want me anymore.'

If he gets picked for the squad and if he then actually plays and then if he plays well then if Spurs haven't already got the first preference by then!!!

On a positive note, it still sounds like he is keen - he is just being a realist and trying to get the press of his back by saying 'I don't want to talk about it now'. Think of an anti-Robinho

Surprisingly, this is a non-story.

What he is saying is that the Transfer Window is closed "so for me the deal is dead". He is effectively saying that he is not thinking about it and knuckling down for Inter.

Of course the deal is dead until the summer, we cant sign him until then. He said its off now (because the window is closed) so I'm knuckling down, but it could still happen in the summer.

Where is there news here?

Yes, another one that got away. I kinda hope this guy plays well, goes to the World Cup but doesn't start. He may then still join us. We'll see.
