Tottenham are readying a bid for Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger after the player announced that he he is considering leaving the club after being subjected to boos and whistles from the Bayern fans. Harry Redknapp the Tottenham manager has already made it crystal clear that he intends to bring in high class players to White Hart Lane and Schweinsteiger would certainly fit the bill.

Scweinsteiger has given his reasons for wanting to leave German football claiming,

“There were even whistles for me at the annual general meeting and that hurt.”

“You never know what happens after a World Cup.

“I am really happy that we played such a good season, but to say now that I will always play for Bayern Munich would be wrong.

“Then if you do actually move, it would be an unfair proclamation to make to the fans.”

Then he commented on why he wants to play in the Premier League,

“When things were not going well, we were being whistled at immediately in the Allianz Arena, but that sort of thing does not happen in England.

“I would like to have the whole stadium behind us even in difficult times.”

Obviously Schweinsteiger does not watch much Premiership football because players do get booed, we have seen players booed at Arsenal, Everton and even at Tottenham the very club that are said to be interested in his services and it does bring in to question the players mental attitude if he cannot handle some whistling and booing.

But regardless, the fact that Harry Redknapp and Tottenham have been linked with Schweinsteiger shows clearly the level that Tottenham have now reached having qualified for next seasons Champions League and Harry Redknapp is very keen to consolidate that success by bringing in the type of quality player that can help Spurs maintain the level they now find themselves at.

It Is certainly a new era at White Hart Lane.

No thanks for me also.

Never been amazing but always had potential. I believe we can do better for certain now we have gone up in the club rankings so to speak.

Does he fit what we do?

Doesn't strike me as a attacking midfielder like Modric and doesn't strike me as a def. midfielder like Hudd? Where would he go? Don't think he would have a chance in hell of being on our wings with the players we have at the moment.

Not that I am totally opposed to this move but seems a little strange and doesn't seem to fit what we want to do.

Bastian Schweinsteiger, Yes yes yes. He is absolute super. Ive allways wanted him to Spurs becuase he can play as a Winger and has a good eye for the game. He is also good in helping out in the defense. But again - this was some years ago.

preparing to bid? how exactly? is Levy counting up the fifty pound notes and still around the 4.2 million mark and doesn't want to make that offer til he gets to £14 million?
:-|

for the record yep i'd like to see him play for us.
can't see it happening though.

I disagree with some people here. I think he's a class player.

Well Harry clearly has history in galvanising player careers. This guy was sensational in the last World Cup and would bring plenty of European experience to our Champions League campaign.

The mentality of German players is second to none, we could have done with some of that in the FA cup semi

I'm really not sure on this one. I can't quite put my finger on it but he reminds me of jenas a little. He does so many things right and can occasionally put in a barnstorming display but he lacks the consistency to be truly top class. He's had everything he could have possibly wanted at Bayern to make that final step but hasn't quite converted the potential. Maybe it's just because he plays for my most hated German team... or it's that his name translates as 'pig climber'.... dunno, but I think 10m is the most I'd want to pay for him. i also can't figure out who he would replace?

I don't think there will be a huge number of players brought in to be honest. This team has led us to 4th spot, and the majority are good enough and deserve a crack at the Champions League.

Also is the fact that the team seems to have a great understanding. Too many new players could break that bond and set us back at the start of the new season, where it will be essential to get a great start to keep us near the top of the league.

Back up keeper, and possible replacements for Keane/Pav. Sandro is already on his way, and with the rest fit we look pretty good.

That said, if Messi/Rooney/Gerrard/Gary Docherty/Ronaldo or Kaka do wish to join ......

We are always linked to world class players. Only now it mght actually be half realistic that we sign one! Exciting times ahead hopefully.

Very good player, but signing a top notch LM like this would suggest the worst re the Modric to Man U stories.

Which has to make you wonder why he is being booed by his own fans!!

No thanks. I'm tired of watching players at spurs that blow hot and cold. We need consistently good players and to be honest even at the top of his game i doubt that he is any better than what we already have.

He is decent, bot not much above anything we have. He plays in a shit league and with two of the worlds finest wingers to give the ball to. Before Ribery and Robben were there, he was part of a shit Bayern team.

And clearly he has never been to an english game where the home team is losing at half time. Boo's are common!

Mesud Ozil is the one we should be really trying to get from Bundesliga. Younger, more skillful, faster, quite prolific, dynamic midfielder (about 10 goals and 12 assists in the league this season - and he's only 21). Played a big role in Germany's U-21 thrashing of England U-21 in last summer's Final (4-0, scored 1, goal assists 2).
Watch him at the WC if he gets his chance.

Werder would do everything they can not to lose him, but he may be persuaded to move to a bigger league for bigger money etc. Realistically though, somebody like Real Madrid or AC Milan (who really have to replace Seedorf/Pirlo/Ambrosini in their midfield sooner rather than later) would have more chance to get him, of course.

Good shout. Mesud Ozil, or Milan Badelj would be the player i would buy

midfielder like Hudd? Where would he go? .

Hopefully on the bench where he belongs.. He's way out of his league in the CL.

Joe Cole aside i don't think Harry is looking at midfield this window, we have Palacios, Modric, Lennon, Huddlestone, Kranjcar, Bentley and Santos on the way.

With Keane going and nothing coming out of the club or the player on Gudjohnsen staying, my money would be on a striker coming in, a top striker.

As for people being CL quality, Zokora left us for Seville and CL football, he isn't as good as Palacios.

Palacios is better than Zokora but not by that much and there are more simmilarities than differences .

Both hard working but ultimately limited footballers .

Not if you compare how well Zokora is playing for Sevilla and how poorly Palacios has played for us since Xmas.
Neither can shoot but Palacios passing is poorer and he does not have the speed of Zokora.
Hope he can find his form for next season.

Good player, but this season he did not play regularly in the league, starting only 7 games with 8 sub appearances, scoring 0 goals with 0 goal assists. Compare that to Ozil's season and you could see why quite a few clubs are excited about him.

Altintop had a bad injury and only started playing regularly towards the end of the season. Hes an all round footballer with experience we will need for next years campaign. Ozil is another great Turkish (german) talent who ive watched over the last few seasons. Defo a massive future star!
