ROBBIE Keane and Jermaine Jenas head the list of players who will be dumped by Harry Redknapp as he looks to fund a mega summer spending spree.
Starsport revealed last week that the Spurs boss will be handed a £40m war chest to bolster his side ahead of their first crack at Champions League football.
Michael Carrick, Joe Cole and Wolfsburg striker Edin Dzeko are all on Tottenham’s wish list.
And Redknapp will look to subsidise his transfer kitty by offloading some of his surplus stars before the start of next season.
Keane and Jenas are the two biggest names on Redknapp’s hit list, while out-of-favour right-back Alan Hutton will also get the chop.
Jenas hasn’t played since February due to a long-term groin injury.
In his absence, Tom Huddlestone has *established himself as the club’s first-choice central midfielder.
And with the pending *arrival of Brazil *holding midfielder *Sandro and with the *tenacious Wilson *Palacios warming the bench for the latter part of the season, Jenas has moved further down the pecking order.
Inter Milan have been linked with a move for Jenas, but a switch to *Italy would depend on whether Jose Mourinho remains at the San Siro.
Meanwhile, Keane’s exit is *inevitable after the hitman was loaned out to Celtic in January.
Everton, Wolves, Sunderland and Aston Villa have all been linked with Keane, but Spurs know they are likely to make a loss on the £12m they paid Liverpool last year.

Hardly news that will surprise us is it...another great piece of journalism from the Star!
Providing we do replace them with quality its best for both parties that these players move on.

I wouldn't call it a loss because when he came in, he did the job and we stayed up. I don't think anyone can say he didn't play a part in us getting the CL spot too. So to say we will make a loss is a bit harsh, I would have prfered "Spurs should expect to get less than the £12m they paid L'Pool"

So many of our managers have put so much faith in Jenas.. i am so glad we now have a manager who see's him for what he really is. I will be over the moon if we get 6m for him.
I don't see how we can lose money on Keane.. we bought him, cant remember for how much.. we have had his services for years.. we sell him for 20m then buy him back for 10m so we have already made 10m on him there, it wouldn't surprise me if Keane cost us nothing in total if it was all totted up.

We will not make a loss on keane unless he leaves for free! We bought him for @ 7mil from Leeds, then sold sold him for approx 17 or 18mil to the scousers, then bought him back for approx 12mil... Therefore so far net he has cost us about 2mil which isn't bad for 6-7 hrs service... We made our profit on him with the Liverpool fiasco and this is a crap article as should be expected from this rag

Thing is we bought him originally for £6m sold him for £20m then bought him back for £12m so we are already £2m up on his dealings, another sale increases that profit.
Didn't we get 20 m for Keane the season before? If so we aren't really making a loss, even if we sell him for less than 12 m are we?

I have faith in DL to balance the books and so I dont worry or bother how much we make or lose on players.

I think that's what's known, in the financial world, as a loss.
And GDS and Hutton. I've always said we'd never be a good side until we got rid of Jenas.

As Harry said he's only interested in bringing in special players and the amount of goals that Dezeko has scored in the past 2 seasons suggests thathe would be worth the gamble of upsetting the Defoe Keane goal machine.
Mind you Keane with Villa would make them serious challengers for 4th and the cups next year. Much like Bent made the difference for Sunderland. Keane would be a big hit at Villa. £10m to Villa would be good business for both clubs as long as long as Spurs was able to pull in a truly top class striker capable of demoting Defoe back to 2nd choice...anything else and we would be better keeping Keane.

Harry has a done a great job of clearing out the dead wood so far, and these players fit that bill. Keane has been a great player first time around, not this time ("never go back") and Jenas had some great games and some dire games, but ultimately, his consistency for Spurs was never good enough to get us to the top 4.
It was proved this season how little impact the loan and injury had, we did not miss them at all.
Good night to both of them.

The danger with accepting the headline transfer figures is that the deals are often set up to flatter egos and mislead the fans.
When Keane came back to Spurs, having agreed a 4 -5 year deal at Anfield at Champions League pay rates only a few months previously, are we really to believe that he meekly submitted to a substantial pay cut to conform to our wage structure? It's much more likely that the apparent drop in his value was because we had to compensate him for losing his inflated Liverpool salary. If he took a £40K/week wage cut to come back to Spurs and signed a 5 year deal, that would be equivalent to about £10 million.
Just a thought....

As Liverpool have constantly being taking the p*ss in previous seasons with derisory offers for our players (apart from their £20 mil deal for Keane which backfired on them) , and now they are being rumoured to with that ridiculous swap offer of Yossi plus £2 mil for Pav we should come back with a similar taking the p*ss offer by saying.
As we will need proven Champions League players next season how about we do a swap of "Keane & Jenas' for "Torres & Gerrard" and as you are a bit hard up we will chuck in £500,000 as part of this deal, that will go towards another wasted down payment for some useless consultants on your so called new ground in the middle of Stanley Park!!

Very unlikely that we will ever get the 20mil for Keane from that sale to L'pool. That figure was based on several clauses, like L'pool winning the league, and/or Champions League, and the number of starts he makes in their team, minimum number of goals he scored there etc. None of those clauses would have materialised, so the actual sale value to us would have been closer to 12-14 mil, estimated.
Whereas the 12-14 mil we paid to L'pool to buy him back would include a main clause of Spurs avoiding relegation and a minimum number of starts he would have to make for us - both of which were fulfilled. So we are more likely to have had to pay the full purchase value to them, as opposed to them not having to pay the full sale value to us.

It's that war chest comment again. Puts me off every time.
I was always neutral about Jenas. He has cored some cracking goals for us and at times been a very versatile and intelligent player. However, he's inconsistent to the point of not knowing who will turn up. When we're at the level we are now, we need players who turn up every week.
Surely Keane has been on the cards for some time. I have always like him but again I think we need to step up if we are to consistently compete at this level.

I hate it, it's really cliche now. You can hardly say £40 million is a warchest compared to what Europe's elite spend, More like a matchbox..

why would we even declare how much we are really going to spend? that would be the silliest move to make. if we actually declared the true amount, prices will definitely be inflated. its all part of the levy-harry mind games guys.

I thought Lionel Messi, Christiano Ronaldo and Kaka were on our WISH list?

A few points on the above,
Firstly as a lot of you have said the idea of having a set figure for transfers is nonsense... How much we pay for any given player will be based on projected sell on value, the current squads estimated value and how badly harry wants the player...
Secondly I think I might be the only person who think Jenas may have a future at spurs... I'm neither in favour or against it but I will say that I doubt that any other team in the prem boasts a player of his quality as a 5th string centre mid(behind modric, thudd, kranjcar, sandro, wilson) or a 3rd string right mid. Managers have always rated him and maybe just maybe 'Arry can get something out of him.
Personally I don't think he's even been that great but I trust 'Arry and stand by the fact his very good backup for our backup.

No don't get worried ttt I'll always pop up on here to defend a lost cause asnd Jenas looks like one of them.
He hasn't been given the chop by Harry, nor is he dead wood or any oither arborial cliche you can uproot.
He has been injured for a good part of the season with an injury that takes time to heal especially after an operation.Ask Woodgate.
He was hardly likely to fight his way back into the team that was on such a fantastic run which ultimately secured 4th place. Nor could Palacios as first choice.
He is a disappointing player who has not made the progress we hoped but if he leaves I for one will wish him well.
Versatile disciplined and on his day a very good player indeed who has served us well.
You won't buy much for what we will get for him and I would like to see him stay as part of the squad if he is willing.

Could see both Jenas and Keane ending up at Villa next season which would be a bad move on our part....

I firmly believe we'll sign David James and Joe Cole on free's ths summer, and I also have a feeling we'll try for Belhadj too, to take advantage of Pompey's need to sell, and finally a big name recognised goal scorer. Possibly one more CD or CM (maybe Micah Richards if City will let him go) too just to bulk out the squad a bit with CL football adding to our workload.
Keane, Jenas, O'Hara, Hutton, Dos Santos and Taarabt will be offloaded to balance the books.
GK - Gomes, James, Cudicini
RB - Corluka, Naughton, Walker
LB - Bale, Ekotto, Belhadj
CD - King, Woodgate, Dawson, Bassong, Kaboul
CM - Huddlestone, Modric, Palacios, Sandro
RW - Lennon, Bentley
LW - Krancjar, Cole
CF - Defoe, Crouch, Pavlyuchenko
Richards could cover RB/CB and has been deployed DM before. Bale and Belhadj can cover LB and LM. Kaboul and Bassong can cover RB and LB respectively. Modic, Krancjar and Cole are all versatile enough to cover across midfield, or off a main target striker. Add to that the likes of Livermore, Bostock, Parrett, Mason, Obika etc
I wouldn't be too disappointed if O'hara or Dos Santos were still here just to add extra competition in midfield.

No, i think you know what he means.
Jenas hasnt played since feb, not in the team/rid of him, same thing, the team benefits without him in it.

yep - minute i read 'war chest' i groan and eyes start glazing over
i'd expect both keane and jj to go tho
both have given a lot to spurs and have helped in what has been our best five seasons in a row in our prem time - and probably our best 5 in a row since 81-85
