Fernando Torres and Luka Modric top Chelsea's summer transfer targets, giving Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy a major dilemma this summer.
Having qualified for the Champions League, Levy knows that selling Modric would be hugely unpopular with fans and doubtless against the wishes of his manager Harry Redknapp.
Whether Spurs, who have sold stars such as Michael Carrick and Dimitar Berbatov in recent years to Manchester United, could resist a £30million bid is questionable.
For Liverpool, the situation is clearer: with losses of £54.9m, a net debt of £351m, no Champions League next season and with new chairman Martin Broughton, in effect, an appointee of the club's bank RBS, a £50m bid for their star asset will clearly be accepted.

Usually Daily Fail rubbish.
"...could resist a £30million bid is questionable."
We're a highly-profitable club. We don't need to sell players we don't want to.

Or who don't wont/need to go.
the reason carrick and Berba where sold is because they wanted to leave. Anyone who wants to leave right before are champions league adventure can go for nothing as far as Im concerned. We need dedication. I dont think modric will want to leave

move along folks.. nothing to see here. recycled garbage at its best. modric is here to stay rather than risk being second or third fiddle in the chelsea lineup.

The only thing that's questionable is how this hack can get away with writing a piece of pure conjecture (no quotes, notice) and call it a report. His editor must be even more dense/desperate than him.

i honestly think he would be an automatic starter for every team in the champions league apart form barca, real madrid or inter (iniesta/xavi, kaka, sneijder.. all similar types of players who are better), but he's going nowhere

As much as I could see Cheski wanting Modrick I seriously doubt they would be prepaired to spend 30m on him. Personally I dont asee him as a 30m player as good as he is
I think taking Joe cole (on a free) and getting 20m would be good business but dont see it happening

If he cost us £16.5, and Joe Cole is free... how is selling him for £20m good business ?

I've never gone along with the theory that players wouldn't want out of spurs once we're in the champs league.
Arsenals greatest players over the last 15 yrs have always left them. They have qualified for the CL every year for the last 14 yrs and I could name a world class team full of players that have demanded to leave them in that time. The main reason for it (although the players will never admit it) is the salary cap in my opinion.
Spurs will always lose players to bigger teams while they pay them less than the bigger teams, CL or not. Modric does not strike me as that type though.

well said.if modric wants to leave,we will just have to get the most money for him.what it means now is if he does go,we get a whopping fee and can attract another world class player with the champs league.unfort i have no doubt if chelsea or man utd want any of our players, they will all want to go.just as a player for another country would want to come play for us in the premier league

as long as we get £30m+ (33m sounds a nice 100% profit figure) then IF he wants to go, fine
i don't really want joe cole - and i'm suspicious of all swap deals - not only are they rare compared to their predicted possibilities - but are we sure the player wants to join us or is just being shunted out?
get the cash then spend it on who we want
obviously if harry and danny want joe cole at a certain price/wage and cole wants to join, fair enough, do a swap
