HARRY REDKNAPP wants Bordeaux left-back Benoit Tremoulinas as part of his plans to turn Tottenham into a European force.

Tremoulinas, 24, is on the hit-list as Redknapp prepares Spurs for their first season in the Champions League.

The Bordeaux defender has three years left on his contract with the French club, but Tottenham have the pull of Premier League football.

Tremoulinas has improved under the guidance of Bordeaux coach Laurent Blanc and has repeatedly insisted he wants to stay at the club.

He was named in the French league's Team of the Year this season and is one of the country's most promising young players.

Team-mate Marouane Chamakh is joining Arsenal this summer on a free transfer and Treomoulinas may not be far behind.

haha exactly what i was thinking, no thanks. I think we have the balance right now anyway, one good defensive LB and one good attacking LB.

Please PLEASE!!! stop STOP!!! referring to Bale as a LB.. he will only play there in an emergency.. why on earth would any of you limit our team by playing the best attacking force in a defensive role??? You'l all be calling for Lennon at RB next ffs.
Harry needs cover at LB coz he thinks the exact same thing!

I used to be in the camp that saw Bale as LB, and I still think that against some teams he is more useful arriving from a deeper positions but i think his performances tail end of the season has showed he is more of a midfielder. I think another option at LB is just what we need, now just need Cole for the attacking right side of midfield and Dzeco or Suarez up front and we are ready for the top 3 :-)

Nope, he would deffo shift BAE out if buying a LB IMO! He has improved but his attiude to the game is way off and he plays for himself! The Charlie incident was a clear manifestation of his arrogance! He gave a couple or hopeless penalties away this year and can get bullied easily by bigger players at times(fellieni this year an example when he got ripped for 45 mins and got hooked). BAE could stay if we bought another, however he would sulk like a bitch I think and cause trouble! Just my opinion!

I don't know anything about Tremoulinas but Ekotto is our only real left back so I think we could do with another player there. I'm also still not convinced by Ekotto - given his statements about why he plays football and his tendency to give away careless fouls and make rash tackles, I'm not sure he's the man I'd want in a massive champs league game when our backs are up against the wall.

Don't get me wrong, by all accounts he's had a good season and been the most consistent left back we've had for as long as I can remember, but other than a striker I think left back is the position that most needs strengthening.

I'd also add that given that he only cares about getting paid he wouldn't mind all that much about sitting on the bench.

Maicon is the right sided version of Bale, yet he fits very nicely in at RB

Bale will be a leftback.

I personally think Bale is better as an attacking LB. He's more effective running onto balls in order to attack down the flank than picking them up froma static position further up the park

The idea that Bale can run full-out at opposition all season long from a left-back position would simply be asking too much. Even playing one or two games recently at full-back and attacking from there appeared to really be difficult for him.
If we want to keep him clear of injury, he should be used as a left-midfielder.

You mean any of us like Harry, who said only last week that he sees his long term future as a left back?

And the answer to your question is because by playing him at left back, we can have an attacking full back providing width while still playing Modric alongside two central midfielders in a floating role. The formation that Harry preferred for most of the season.

Perhaps more thought and less CAPS LOCK and exclamation marks next time?
