DAVID James has issued a come-and-get-me plea to Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp by insisting he can play in the Premier League well into his forties.

England goalkeeper James is available on a free transfer after being told his contract at Portsmouth will not be extended.

James, 40 in August, says he is not ready to retire and has his sights set on breaking John Burridge’s record as the oldest Premier League player.

Former Liverpool star James said: “I have got every intention of playing on next season. So long as I am fit, I am capable of playing at the highest level.”

So we have Gnomes & Cuddly's signed a new deal, why would he want to come here? He'd barely get a game.

Cudicini signing a new deal is key, can't see as we'd have three experienced keepers of the calibre of Gomes, Cudicini and James on our books all vying for 1st team, two of them and a young keeper maybe, but Carlo's new deal effectively rules us out of signing James in my opinion.

i don't think cudicini is anywhere close to vying for 1st place - it took harry a while to catch up with the fact that Gomes is way better than carlo - but harry surely knows now

i think james is better than cudicini and if he is happy to be second choice, we should get him in

I can see Harry being interested. Its only a one yr extension for CC so that could be just insurance for us until we get someone better or fitter. If he is offered a 3/4 yr contract at another prem club he would want to take it. James is a harry favourite and if he was willing to be 2nd choice I expect Harry would jump at it. Personally I'd prefer a fit Carlo as he is much younger but I don't manage the team and trust harry knows what he wants.

I think James would be a better #2 than CC .. i think James will be happy to play 2nd fiddle to Gomes and wait for a chance.. who would you rather see between the sticks when Gomes eventualy does his groin for real, CC or DJ

That reads like a 'come and get me' to all PL clubs rather than us specifically. I wouldn't pay much attention until the quotes are quoted and even then i'll wait for it on the OS.

I'm surprised Arsenal haven't got a hankering for James, he can't any worse than Almunia or Fab.

Where does that say "come & get me Spurs"?

The guy is 40 FFS!!! and will be nearing 41 by the end of next season..... Its true that we should be looking at options for another decent back up keeper but that should be in preference to Alnwich! Cudicini is 36 so whoever else were are looking at should be for the long term and forgive me for stating the obvious a 40 yr old shot stopper aint even medium term, its less than short term......
