Luka Modric steps back into international football with Croatia tonight admitting: "It's such a shame we're not at the World Cup."

Croatia failed to make it to South Africa after finishing third in European qualifying Group Six behind England and Ukraine.

Luka said it was 'painful' to miss out on the tournament and that his country's focus will now be on getting it right for Euro 2012.

The midfield maestro is set to earn his 38th cap as Croatia travel to Austria for a friendly in Klagenfurt. He's the only one of our Croatian trio in the squad for friendlies against Austria, Wales and Estonia as Niko Kranjcar and Vedran Corluka are injured.

"It's painful for us that we're not there," said Luka. "It's hard to accept and such a shame because we have such a good team and I believe if we'd have got to the tournament we could have done well.

"Our players around Europe are in great form as well.

"We need to turn it around now and prepare for Euro 2012 qualification. We need to look forward."

Good for Spurs and England these three aren't at the WC. Having said that - they didn't deserve to qualify on the basis of their two games against England!

I wouldn't say its good... but hopefully, the pain of it all, not watching and things will have that drive to make them play good next season.
