Everton striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni has rocked the air of stability at Goodison Park by stating that he would have joined former manager Harry Redknapp at Tottenham Hotspur were it not for the Achilles tendon injury which sidelined him for almost a year.

The Nigerian played under Redknapp at Portsmouth and it is believed that he would welcome a move to the capital and the chance to play Champions League football with Spurs, a move which would scupper David Moyes’ expressed intention to keep the current Everton squad intact.

Tim Cahill yesterday signed a new four year contract while Mikel Arteta’s agent today announced that his client is happy to remain at Everton, but Moyes may now be tempted to sell Yakubu to Tottenham Hotspur as soon as he can in order to get some much needed funding in place.

Yakubu told MTNFootball.com: “I was very close to joining Spurs before the injury put paid to the transfer.”

I very much doubt he would be on our radar now.

Perhaps the Spurs players got wind of this potential signing and decided to do us all a favour by injuring him at the Lane last November!

I'd love to have him, not as a starter but would be a great squad player. have always rated him, he's scored goals no matter where he's been

Would have been ok if we got him straight from Pompey, he looked some player then. But now? Seems to be injured all the time! We don't need another player like that!

He's a very good striker and, along with that of Saha, his return coincided with Everton getting their season going.

But I don't think he'd be the kind of player we'd be looking for now. There aren't really any players at the clubs who finished below Liverpool who would significantly improve our squad. And that's the main criterion this Summer.

A good striker, very much a form player. When he's hot he's hot, when he's not he can go months without scoring.

The only reason we may be even linked to the likes of Yakubu is because they palyed for Harry at Pompey. And Harry does tend to go for his ex-players a lot.

Yakubu in, Pav out would be just the kind of thing Harry could have pulled a season ago - but really hard to see it now, and would be a major disappointment for me.

Yakubu is a very lazy player who often looks overweight. Everton fans can't stand him and i think we should be thankful that he got injured and therefore didn't sign for us!

aha....i get what you're thinking. You mean that we get £20M from Everton to take him here for a season and keep him as a sub to the bench
