Everton striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni has rocked the air of stability at Goodison Park by stating that he would have joined former manager Harry Redknapp at Tottenham Hotspur were it not for the Achilles tendon injury which sidelined him for almost a year.
The Nigerian played under Redknapp at Portsmouth and it is believed that he would welcome a move to the capital and the chance to play Champions League football with Spurs, a move which would scupper David Moyes’ expressed intention to keep the current Everton squad intact.
Tim Cahill yesterday signed a new four year contract while Mikel Arteta’s agent today announced that his client is happy to remain at Everton, but Moyes may now be tempted to sell Yakubu to Tottenham Hotspur as soon as he can in order to get some much needed funding in place.
Yakubu told MTNFootball.com: “I was very close to joining Spurs before the injury put paid to the transfer.”
