TOTTENHAM are ready to use Robbie Keane or Jermaine Jenas as part of a deal to lure £25m Ashley Young to White Hart Lane.
Harry Redknapp is a huge admirer of the Aston Villa winger who is high on the Spurs boss’ list of summer transfer targets.
Starsport revealed last week that Redknapp will look to offload Keane and Jenas this summer as he looks to reshape his squad ahead of their first crack at Champions League football.
And Redknapp is plotting a £16m cash offer for Young, with either one of the Spurs pair heading in the opposite direction as a makeweight.
Villa boss Martin O’Neill (below) has been told by American owner Randy Lerner he must sell before he buys – a move that has angered a number of the current playing squad.
But with O’Neill already set to lose James Milner, the Villa boss will be desperate to keep hold of Young. O’Neill has earmarked Jenas as one of the potential replacements for Milner should he leave Villa Park this summer, while he has also been linked with a move for Keane.
And Redknapp is keen to use that fact to his advantage as he looks to complete a move for Young.
Young is focused on winning back his England place after missing out on the World Cup squad and the chance to play Champions League foot ball would be an attractive prospect for the midfielder.

Sandro, Dzeko, Joe Cole, Ashley Young, Arda Turan, 5 players we have been linked with, all very realistic targets apart from Sandro whos signed already. I feel these 5 would help improve our midfield and attack, and compliment Hudd, Modric, Krajncar, Bale and Lennon.
Could easily raise funds with Bentley, Pav, Jenas, O hara, Hutton, Keane, Dos Santos and Taraabt.
Kaboul proved he could challenge Corluka or step up if Woodgate needs to retire.
As our defence showed it was pretty solid throughout the season we dont need much change unless Harry opted for more keeper cover or buying a LB to keep Ekotto on his toes.
Player like Cole and Dzeko would probably be important in Champions League, now all that pace and flair would be scary.
We would be upgrading our depth even further having players of this calibre and hopefully 1st qualify and then compete in Group Stages and hopefully shake up the Top 4 once again.

god I hope not. I think young is a petulant and over-rated. We don't need him, especially for that money. Find a young tricky SA winger, with a tenuous Italian, Spanish or Portuguese ancestry, who would be happy to learn his trade behind Lennon and Bale.

He has had a bad season, but there is some talent there, i agree £25 million seems over the top, Villa won't want to let both Milner and Young go at the same time.
But we do need to add some pace into our team, if Lennon is injured again, we have no pace on the right side.
Ho hum.

They're muppets tho... What I will say is that he is 24 so this years drop in form cannot be explained by being young(see bales and lennons blips in form) and 25 million is a joke... No way is he worth that... 18 mill id say. Would like to swap him for jenas but not bentley really.
I have always liked him tho and I think he could bring a bit more balance to the squad... If Harry does want the option of playing bale at left back(which is a nice option but prefer him to stay on the wing) then young would be a descent left winger to bring in for him.... My worry is that if beniot or bale gets injured is we will loose some of that attacking bite that served us so well at the end of the season... I bloody love watching our wingers scare the shit out of everyone they play against, bale/lennon/young would be nice to have!

I can't see where we would use him, unless of course Bentley leaves, and then he would be back-up to Lennon and Bale/Niko

He wouldnt start in our strongest team... But Im loving how strong and big our squad is and everyone seems happy-ish(another nice knock effect from champs league qual) so sod it... Bring him in, and he can play if beniot, bale or lennon need a rest/get injured... If he does well he might keep his place... This has been pretty much the formula for most of the season with only a few walking straight back into the team, noones guaranteed a spot and theres a lot of strength in depth.
The signing gets my vote anyway! Bentley or Jenas the other way would be fine by me but would prefer to flog Jenas...
What we really now need though is to get some striking options.
I think left back position is fine now kaboul has prooved(to me anyway) that he's actually very good there... I would argue he's a lot more suited to that position than he is centre back. And with Charlie and Naughton there as well I think we've got enough.
Centre backs we're fine for if charlie and kaboul can play there if we are really struggling.
Left backs fine with beniot playing there and bale droping in from midfield if he gets injured.
Right wing lennon/bentley/young
Left wing bale/young/Kran
Middle Modric/Thudd/Sandro/Wilson/Kran
Up front ? --- Hmmmmmm

Why do we need more wingers/creative players?
Looking back on this season, any team that has come to us and tried to play football has invariably been beaten pretty comfortably or in many cases spanked off the park. This includes some of the leading teams in the country (City, Chelsea)
Even in our worst performances this season, creating the chances hasn't been the problem, the Portsmouth, Wolves Hull games etc. I'm guessing we had at least 20 real chances. Didn't score any.
To me unless Messi and Ribery suddenly decide they want to join us, we dont need to un-necessarily f*ck about with the wings and change our squad yet again when we finally show some sign of it being settled and balanced. Is Ashley Young really better than what we have already? No.
All we need is that star striker and then I honestly think we can challenge for the title!

If A Young is worth 25m, we've got some fair value in our squad!
Fuck it, let's just offer Modric, Bale, Wilson, King, Dawson and Lennon for him...

Why on earth would we want him ?
They can have Jenas anytime.
I wonder if Defoe has a bad World Cup & gets a bit lost when called apon, it may be that he is the player that joins them ??

Its not about changing the squad, its about improving on our depth players who can come in and do a better job than we currently have if Lennon, Modric and co get injured or dip in form, or just need a rest from the extra demands of playing in europe, id be much more comfortable with players like Young, Cole, Dzeko or whoever we bring in than Jenas, Bentley, Hutton, GDS and co that make little impact.

When evaluating potential targets you have to consider what we lacked in certain games this year and what we will need for next season. It is not just a case of moving Bentley on and replacing him with another winger.
We need a legitimate back up to Gomes who can be trusted in any game and a keeper who has a physical presence. We cannot afford a keeper who can be targeted by domestic and European opposition. Do you really want to go to Stamford Bridge with Cudicini or Alnwick as the starting keeper?
We lacked pace when Lennon got injured and it was only Bale's return to form that gave us some of what we were missing. We need another player with real pace. It will be very important in Champions League games especially away from home and in games against the top three. Breaking at pace away at the likes of Bolton, Birmingham and Fulham when we come under pressure could be the difference in picking up wins rather than draws.
A strong target player who can mix it up with the likes of Stoke, Bolton, Wolves and such teams especially at White Hart Lane. On the road we need the additional pace to hit them on the break.
We need a naturally left footed left back, so that we can keep players in their best positions.
We need another forward or attacking midfield player who can open up a tight back four with a pass or his movement off the ball. We ran out of ideas against the likes of Stoke, Wolves, and Hull at home and this type of player will help us pick up 9 points in these games as opposed to one.
A six yard box finisher. We don't have one in the mold of Lineker or Allen and a predator could see us challenging for a higher position than fourth.

Absolutely right-but i would add cole to the list, would be a good experienced all round attacking midfielder, and get rid of Jenas and pav
