Sevilla’s exciting Brazilian striker Luis Fabiano looked set to join Italian giants AC Milan last summer but talks broke down over the fee involved. Chelsea and Manchester United have also been strongly linked with moves in the past but it seems as though Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp is set to make his bid this summer. Harry is eyeing a ‘special’ player to take his young Spurs side to the next level as they step up to join Europe’s elite in the Champions League but has found himself priced out of a move for Edin Dzeko by Manchester City.

According to reports in Spain, Tottenham are in negotiations regarding an £18m bid and with the player about to turn 30 in November, Sevilla are ready to do business. The Brazilian star only signed a new 3-year deal with his Spanish club last season so won’t come cheap but as we’ve learnt over the past few seasons money talks and after finishing 4th Spurs have the funds to seal the deal. Harry Redknapp also has a number of players likely to be surplus to requirements including Alan Hutton, Jamie O’Hara and Robbie Keane which would free up further funds in which to sign Brazil’s main striker.

The 29-year-old may have been challenging the top scorers in Spain last season but he has still netted 15 goals in 23 league games (18 starts). This includes five strikes in his last four games of which Luis Fabiano had only finished a full 90 minutes once. He didn’t enjoy the most prolific of campaigns in the 2008/09 season after scoring 8 goals in 26 league appearances (21 starts). However, in 2007/08 only former Mallorca star Daniel Guiza scored more than his 24 League goals in La Liga. This tally is even more impressive as only 2 of those 24 goals came from the penalty spot.

The source is somewhat, erm, unreliable. Would be nice, though.
