Palermo are ready to cash in on Simon Kjaer, with Tottenham and both Manchester clubs leading the chase for the Denmark centre half.

The Serie A side's president Maurizio Zamparini admits that both Kjaer and Spurs target Edinson Cavani are expected to move on this summer.

Kjaer, 21, has emerged as one of the most sought-after defenders in Europe after an impressive two seasons in Sicily and United see him as a long-term replacement for either of their established injury-prone central defenders Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic.

Inter Milan and Juventus have also been linked, but Zamparini insisted the interest was from outside Italy.

'I know of talks with the two Manchester clubs, Tottenham and Wolfsburg,' said Zamparini, who wants at least £12.5million.

'Inter have not called me so I don't know if they're interested.

'When certain offers arrive, it's necessary for the player to leave. A couple of quite important offers have come in. We are discussing them, then I will call the player.

'As for Cavani, he is on the market because he wants to be. He wishes to go to another club and we aren't negotiating with anyone. Anyway, I think that in the end Kjaer and Cavani will leave.'

Tottenham and City have shown interest in Uruguay striker Cavani, but both have been put off by the £25m price tag and have other more attractive targets before they turn to the 23-year-old.

Palermo have resisted Birmingham City's advances for Fabrizio Miccoli and have signed former Middlesbrough striker Massimo Maccarone from Siena as they prepare to make way for Cavani.

I wouldn't be upset if we managed to get Kjaer. He's impressed me so far in the world cup and his pass to release Rommendahl down the right against Cameroon was a thing of beauty, so much better than Dawson's punts forward.

we're second choice for this. united can offer higher wages (despite being in dept) and a better chance of progressing in the champions league, we can only offer champions league and less wages. man shity they cant offer champions league and only money to warm the bench. last season they signed all those strikers, and now theyre tryna assemble a hoard central defenders. with toure, lescott, boateng, micah richards/onuoha, kompany (i know hes more of a utility man) what are they playing at trying for kjaer? next season theyll be going in for 10 CMs

Perhaps they reason that if they have got them, then no-one else can buy them.

...so much better than Dawson's punts forward.

This is just auto-think bullshit. When last season did Dawson rely on "punts forward"? All season, and increasingly so as the year progressed, he's been developing his ability to deliver cultured, possession-retaining passes out of defence. He does it every match now, usually four or five times, as opposed to one or two long crossfield hoofs.

But you've got it in your head thast Dawson "punts forward", so no matter what he does for the rest of his career, that will be Dawson for you.

I watched him closely because of the links I thought he looked shaky and not all that, from what I've seen he's no better than bassong, but like I've said I've only seen him in the world cup for a crap denmark team, and cavani aint looked up to much neither, both have great hair though ;-)

We don't need him, as hopefully Woodgate will be back, and that gives us 6 CBs:
King, Dawson, Kaboul, Bassong, Woodgate and Charlie and in emergencys we still have the Thudd, who used to play at the back for Derby in his early days

Quite so. Gratuitous Daws-dissing by the previous poster. Watch him play.

| agree that he hasn't looked fantastic, but his partner at the back has been awful. He's obviously one of the hottest property's in football and it looks like we see him as Woodgates replacement.

I too watched Kjaer closely and was far from impressed. Add to that a new league, team mates etc, and he could take quite a while to get things right. At 12.5 million it's a pass from me. We have DAws/Bassong as our long term CB partnership and ther's no need to disturb that.

BEFORE the f-ing cup would have been the time, like when he was lighting it up in cup qualifiers and for palermo, a YEAR ago, dammit.

We did try, I suppose..

Anyone would think he was refering to Colin Calderwood!"

Technically Dawson is very good, he has impressed me with the improvement in his passing aswell! He is turning into a World Class defender.
