Spurs boss concedes he would not turn down national role.
Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp has admitted he would not turn down the offer to manage England.
Current England head coach Fabio Capello's future is under scrutiny after the Three Lions' woeful showing at the 2010 World Cup.
England exited the competition in South Africa at the last 16 stage after being comfortably beaten 4-1 by Germany on Sunday.
Several names, including Redknapp's, have already been linked with England's top job, although it remains to be seen if Capello will leave his role as head coach.
Redknapp told talkSPORT: "I'm English, who wouldn't want to manage England?
"There's not an Englishman - whether it's me, Roy Hodgson or Sam Allardyce - who would turn the job down because it's our country and we want to manage our country.
"No-one is ever going to turn that job down."
Home-grown
Redknapp also stressed his belief that the next national manager should be English with the country having turned to Swede Sven Goran Eriksson prior to Steve McClaren.
He said: "Could you imagine an Englishman managing the Italian national team? It doesn't happen.
"The Germans are the same, they have a German manager. We've ended up with two foreign managers.
"This guy [Capello] has a fantastic record at club level. But look, we've had a go with it now. When he finally moves on, in four years or whatever, surely there has to be a young guy or somebody in this country, surely we have to find a manager from England, an English manager.
"I'm not talking about a Scottish manager or an Irish manager, I'm talking about an English manager because this is where we're from, this is our country.
Disgusting
"We should be able to produce someone who can manage the England football team and let's be honest, they can't do any worse than what they've [Eriksson and Capello] done."
Redknapp also labelled England's campaign at this summer's World Cup as a 'massive disappointment' after the side again failed to produce on the grandest stage.
"The players haven't performed," said the Spurs boss.
"The whole package hasn't worked in this World Cup. I was England all the way and really thought it was our big chance, the best chance we've had of winning the World Cup since 1966. It's been a massive disappointment.
"We were average against the USA. We were disgusting against Algeria. We were better against Slovenia, but what a poor team they were. They'd be lucky to survive in the Championship."

This would be a real kick in the bollox if it were to happen :bang: Hopefully the tax evasion thing might scupper any proposed deal as they couldn't possibly offer him the job with that hanging over his head could they?

Maybe we can swap Harry for Capello if Harry really wants the England job. Fabio has a great record in club management and he knows half our team already.

England can f---k right off, Harry is our manager and we want to keep him for our CL campaign. Also we do not want to swap Harry with Capello. I would be gutted if we lost Harry now after what he achieved last season. If England want a new manager go for Roy Hodgson, he would do a good job for them, but for f---k's sake leave our Harry alone. Anyway I wouldn't think they would touch Harry with a bargepole with all this tax evasion stuff hanging over his head.

That would be an intriguing swap. But if not him then who? Who is out there good enough to come to us and take on what Harry has done?
Bilic, with little club experience?
Jol again?
Really I have no clue. Hodgson might go to Liverpool, if he does then you will have a resounding cacophany of support for "Harry for England". Imagine the headlines now,
"Cry God for Harry, England and St George"
depressing.....

bring back tony soprano i say and bring suarez with ya big man, wouldnt suprise me 1 bit if harry goes, talkin himself into the england job by the sounds of it an defo no 2 capelo
Quite honestly I don't know why Club Managers' would want this job (apart from the money and I suppose, prestige....have I answered my own question here?)
But my point is that it's a 'poisoned chalace' really; the England manager is totally at the mercy of Premier Leage clubs who refuse to release players for friendly games, and at the conclusion of the season send on their injured/burned-out players (often with 60+ games behind them) to him and then the public/media expect world-class results.
Under those sorts of parameters, no manager can succeed. So, take the job at your peril Harry.

Dave Whelan from Wigan was on 5L with Nicky Campbell this morning and made some sense (before he started going of on one).
His basic point was that the amateurs at the FA should hand over control of the England team to the professionals who run the Premier League.
(From Whelan and the PL, this is pure self-interest because they recognise that the pathetic performance of the England team can and will do enormous damage to the image of the PL.)
Only if the PL see it as being important to have a genuine stake in the England team will we see young English players being encouraged by their clubs, and an end to the obvious nonsense of managers witholding key players from the England duty mid-season.
Any new manager taking on the role under the current regime will have all the problems suffered by his predecessors and, if he's English, he knows he'll have to accept the consequent vilification for the rest of his life. (Remember the Wally with the Brolley. I wonder what he's doing with himself these days...)
Harry's answer to the question about his interest in the England job was purely hypothetical, and he clearly stated that he didn't expect there to be a vacancy until Capello's contract expired in four years' time.

Low from Germany? out of contract, great style of football, young. Don't think we'll lose harry thou!
Hi 'wakefield...' "the Walley with the Brolley" has just lead his team to the Dutch League title..... which supports my previous point that good Managers do not have a chance under the present F.A./ E.P.L. setup.
I saw the Capello post-match interview today...quite impressed. I.m.h.o. he should continue to be the England Manager; maybe he can influence change in the F.A./E.P.L. 'relationship'?

Bring Hoddle back as England manager. The national team played good football under him and he was sacked for non-football reasons, which I'm sure he has learned his lesson from.
He is freely available for employment as well. He makes a better national manager than club manager.

Harry would be the best England manager since Venables - no doubt about it. Yes his tactics are a bit gun ho but that is what the England team are crying out for.
Problem is I am Spurs fan 1st and England 2nd. My problem with England is I detest some of the players so can't get that wound up about it. I actually laughed yesterday.
I understand though why anyone would want the job as it is one of the best paid and most prestigious jobs in the world. If he gets it right he will be made a Knight of the Realm, a hero and immortality...across the globe... Don't think we can match that with another £1m or £2m...
Just as things are going right for us something always happens and I think in 2 weeks time Fabio will be sacked and either Harry or Hodgson will be offered the job (if Hodgson hasn't accepted the Liverpool job 1st)

Joe, I was being ironic. To his enormous credit McLaren put his England nonsense behind him, but he has had to rebuild his career on the Continent, and it will be another 5 years before he's being touted by the press as the next saviour of Liverpool, Man U, etc.
Agree with you about Capello.

I still have big concerns about Redknapp leaving.
The FA have said they want 2 weeks to decide Fabio's fate. That doesn't sound like an organisation that's fully behind its man - the one they employed at £6mil per year.
Moreover, Redknapp walked out on Pompey because Spurs "could be my last real challenge in management" - well what if England came calling? I really don't know who we'd get to replace him at Spurs.
Im not normally a pessimist by any means but at the moment Im not being filled with confidence. The only thing Im clinging to is Redknapp's admission 2 or 3 weeks ago that he'd sign another contract at Spurs. But, that was before England fell to pieces.

I dont think Capello will be sacked, I think he probably should be, but I doubt he will. I dont think the FA will want, (or can afford) the huge pay-off to him that would entail, nor do they want to admit publicly that they made a costly mistake hiring him. I think he will be there at least until after the Euros.

I think Capello will stay but I read an interesting thread on another site the other day highlighting the vitues of Redknapp doing the job part time with Trevor Brooking. Let Brooking do all the official stuff like turning up at draws for euros etc and all the periodical press conferences and comments on England related issues, and let Arry get on with coaching/managing the team........ he knows most of the players personally, he will be checking out everyone else anyway by way of his proffession and I cant see anyone else getting the best out of England bar maybe Hodgson.
Not that I really care any more though. This recent performance has really got me despising the England team and the whole set up that comes with it.It really is the straw that has broken the camels back
The real difference between us and the Germans?
PROFFESIONALISM They know they are footballers. Not celebrities who got famous by playing football. I really could go on and on about how scared I am for English football with the young society veering away from sports in general, and nowhere near enough investment put into quality coaching countrywide- not just concentrating on the major cities but that is a rant and a half so ill leave it for now

1. Pray that the Inland Revenue or Customs arrest and charge him again in the next few days. If I were him I would also take the England job because of age - he's not likely to get another opportunity to manage the national team 4 or 5 years down the line. And if he doesn't get arrested......
2. Offer Felix Magath a deal he can't refuse. He won the Geman double with Bayern two years in succession (never been done before), turned Wolfsburg into German champions (the English translation of "Wolfsburg" is "Stoke"), and led Schalke 04 (Germany's answer to Newcastle United) to 2nd place in the Bundesliga at his first attempt. Notorious for his hard, relentless training methods, focusing on discipline, fitness and conditioning. Players hate him. He speaks pretty good English. Better still, give him the England job and we get to keep 'Arry.

Great suggestion - but we already had that approach from Ramos, and our English players made sure he was undermined enough to be sacked. It seems they cannot deal with the hard professionalism if it requires too much sacrifice on their part. And we saw the difference between the two systems in that 4-1 Germany v England mismatch...
