Sevilla striker Luis Fabiano has poured scorn on speculation linking him with a move to Champions League debutants Tottenham Hotspur.

The 29-year-old, who is currently on World Cup duty with Brazil, says he would not consider a move to White Hart Lane because he feels it would represent a step down from current club Sevilla.

"I have heard Tottenham Hotspur made an inquiry about me but, with all respect, that is not somewhere I am going to be able to win the Premier League or the European Cup in the next three or four years.

"There would be no point in me joining Spurs. I might as well stay at Sevilla, as it's the same thing. Sevilla are actually bigger when you look at how much we have been in the European Cup, so there would be no point me moving to a smaller team.

"The choice will come down to Manchester United and AC Milan. That is the sort of team I want to be signing for, one of the true giants of Europe.”

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp is said to be keen on signing a new striker, with Roman Pavlyuchenko and Robbie Keane both being linked with moves out of the club.

Just confirms what Gigi Buffoon said a couple of months or so ago. Top rated players will now only join the top 2-3 teams in each league as they want guarantees of playing CL football and league titles. They don't want to work for their money and would rather sit on their asses warming the bench at Milan, Madrid, Barca and Man U than put in some effort to help a team achieve that status.

Fabiano has one big career move left but the "big" teams already have younger and potentially better players on their books so I can only see one option for him ie Milan, assuming they're interested that is.

That's a bit rough. He'd be ending his career at Spurs, a club on the same level as where he is at Sevilla (for the moment, at least) He's first choice for Brazil. Given the quality of lifestyle he must have, you can see why he wants to go to a super club or not at all.

I imagine we are not spoken of highly in the Seville camp, so this doesn't come as a big surprise.

i actually think hes been quite fair in what he said.

We are of similar, if not slightly smaller, in stature to Sevilla so if anything it would be a sideward step.

and hes been respectful in stating his opinion

i think fabiano is stating the obvious - a top player like him can go to far bigger clubs than us

Yep.. I can't see anything wrong in what he's said. I'd prefer this sort of honesty (an honesty we shouldn't take as being a sleight on our club, just an impartial statement of perception), as opposed to cliches and lip-service-niceties.

I agree. If the quote is genuine, then fair enough - don't come, and we hope to see you in the champ league sometime. I don't want a player at Spurs who has no will to fight left in them.

Go and join Milan, or whoever else, frankly don't care.

I want hungry players, who still want to earn their silver.

Exactly .

He's not as good as that Mexican Man Utd have signed or that Bulgarian they signed a couple of seasons ago either .

He's another Darren Bent , scores a few but ultimately not actually that good .
