Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini claims Tottenham have made a double bid for Simon Kjaer and Edinson Cavani.

A host of clubs have been linked with the highly-rated pair with Palermohttp://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif

The likes of resigned to losing the star duo this summer. Manchester United,http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif Manchester Cityhttp://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif and Inter Milanhttp://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif have been credited with an interest in Danish international Kjaer,http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif while City and Wolfsburghttp://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif are thought to be keen on Cavani.http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif

However, Tottenham are hoping to steal a march on their rivals by making a double bid for both players.

Zamparini claims Spurs have tabled a bid of €35million (£28million) for Kjaer and Cavani and that the offer was too good to turn down.

"Tottenham have bid €35m, an offer we cannot refuse, seeing as the two players have both said they want to leave," Zamparini told Sky Italia television.

"We will reinvest the money for these players," assured Zamparini. "The midfield is my biggest concern, whereas in defence and attack we are fairly covered."

Spurs boss Harry Redknapphttp://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif is keen to bolster his squad as he prepares for the Champions League next season and landing Kjaer and Cavani would be a major coup for the White Hart Lane outfit.

Cavani has been linked to Bayern and Inter and Juve.
Kjaer has been linked to Bayern, AC, Juve, Inter and others.

This would be a major major coup if we pulled it off.... from what I hear.

Cavani's games/goals ratio doesn't look too great, who has seen him play? Thoughts??

Kjaer started both of Denmarks first and second group games, I recall their defence being a bit shakey... he got booked in both so missed the final match.

I can only go from reputation though, anyone seen them play on a regular basis? I've not seen either often enough to have a conclusive opinion...

It's hard to argue with a deal to sign Kjaer. He's unanimously recognised as one of the top defensive prospects in Europe. Playing in central defence in the World Cup at 21 is an indicator in itself, irrespective of whether he played well or badly - if you're good enough at defending to play at that level at all at that age, you're likely to turn into something special when you're 27.

Cavani I'm scarcely familiar with. The Youtube stuff looks good, in that he scores a lot of different kind of goals. What is conspicuously missing is any sign that he ever passes to anyone. We could do without one of those.

But Kjaer: he's worth signing even if Woodgate is OK. A 21 year old defender in a World Cup finals squad is an achievement in itself.

Cavani (23 years old) is understudy to Suarez and Forlan in the Uruguayan national team and I believe he played in 3 of their 4 world cup games, coming on a substitute in 2. Known as El Matador, he's fast, has good physical strength and is about 6' 2" tall. Well appreciated by my Uruguayan friends who've all told me he should well in the Premier because of his style of play

Simon Kjær wasn't too impressive in South Africa, but the entire Danish team looked shaky and lacking in quality - and a lot of key players were carrying injuries. The same goes for Kjær, who has been impressive for club and country this term, but picked up what was first believed to be a serious knee injury late in the final warm-up game. I am impressed with his defensive skills, and he seems to have the pace and the strength to play in the PL. He will probably need a season to adjust - the season that might be left in King and Woody, so by all means bring him in.
Cavani I have only begun to study during the WC. Excellent cross for Suarez' first goal of the tournament, but hard to say if he is good enough, and what about the language barrier? I assume Wilson is the only current Spanish speaking Spur. I am not convinced, but not well informed enough to contribute here.

I wouldnt base how good someone is on the performances at this world cup. just have a look at how the majority of the England team did.

i watched cavani a few times a season or two ago. i must say, he didn't stand out in palermo's side (certainly not when it came to scoring), although it always looked like he might come good.

as for kjaer being in the danish side at a world cup - how much of an achievement is that on its own? of course, everyone has been raving about him, but for a nation with a population of 5 million, there can't be that many professional footballers to choose from.

did see him a bit at palermo though and he looked decent back then.

Woodgate speaks capable Spanish, dating back to his time at Real Madrid. And it's Giovani's native tongue as well.

I forgot about Woodgate's past, so at least there will be a couple of teammates to speak to - unless Gio comes back, which I very much doubt.
Oh, well, there may be nothing to the story anyway - and for all I know Mr. Cavani could be fluent in 12 languages or more .
