Tottenham have contacted Joe Cole 's advisors and offered a deal to put him on a par with the highest paid players at White Hart Lane.
Cole spent six years at Chelsea before he was released this summer after the Stamford Bridge club refused to meet his wage demands to make him one of the club’s top paid players.
Last week, Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp admitted for the first time that he would like to sign Cole, saying, "We've declared our interest in Joe to his agent but that is as far as it has gone."
Redknapp handed the 28-year-old his senior debut when the two were together at West Ham. How Redknapp has persuaded Spurs chief Daniel Levy to put together an attractive package for Cole.
The Daily Mirror reports that although Levy refuses to break the club's maximum £60,000-a-week wage structure, Tottenham have offered Cole's advisors a deal which includes a signing-on fee, loyalty and success bonuses which make it the best pay deal at the club.
Arsenal are also thought to be interested in Cole, but Redknapp will hope that his personal connection with the England midfielder will prove a crucial factor in bringing him to White Hart Lane.
Cole is apparently now on holiday for two weeks following England's botched World Cup campaign and will decide on his future when he returns.
In 2009/2010 Joe Cole made 31 appearances for Chelsea in the Premier League and Champions League, scoring two goals and providing four assists.

Nothing like taking one week old quote and twisting it into another new story. At no time are bumper contracts mentioned and I am sure or limit is not £60K a week any more either.

even if we weren't changing our pay structure I'd still not want him.

It seems to be the case that the less games Joe Cole actually plays the more his reputation seems to grow.

I'm sorry but you can't act like Joe Cole has not been a brilliant player for Chelsea. Spent most of last season with a band knee injury but before that he's consistently been there scoring and setting up good goals in big games against the top 4 clubs.
He can play in a number of positions and with the confidence Harry will put in him that Ancelotti didn't, we'll see his best work I'm sure of it..................IF we sign him that is.

Our Joe Cole is called Luka Modric. We really don't need him and certainly not for the package we'd have to offer. His whole career at Chelsea has been inconsistent, often downright bad with occasional flashes of brilliance. Yes, he has experience but as we've seen in recent days, experience can only get you so far.

Thanks, but no thanks.
I think we already have better players at the club.

This.
And, big clubs are scared of his ability, which can completely change the dynamic of games (i.e how RVP almost changed the result in the NLD in April). One thing we're missing is players who frighten even the best teams, so, although I appreciate the similarities between Cole and Modric, Cole would still be a brilliant signing for the club.

Joe Cole, Dzeko, Forlan, Fabiano, Kjaer or Cavani, doesnt really matter. We need atleast a couple of signings to maintain our form or even qualify in CL proper, how much game time have Lennon, Bale, and Modric missed in last 2 seasons? To an extent Krajncar missed the run in. Its not like we cant afford it and better yet we have an abundance of players on the fringe not good enough that could raise funds anyway. We cant expect to not strengthen our depth cos we think Lennon, Modric and Bale should start in 60 games. Besides im over buying players like Walker, Naughton, Taraabt, GDS and stars for the future who dont get a game.

And the fact that he doesnt score or assist as much as gun midfielders do is why we need to strengthen.

Exactly, but what happens if our Luka gets injured or loses form? Luka cannot play all the EPL CC FA Cup and Champions League games.

The bottom line is that it simply cannot be a bad thing for us to acquire Joe Cole's services if he wants to join.
We're gonna have more than enough games to go around if we get through our CL qualifier so why the heck not.

As good a player as he is, I think we have more than enough top class cover at LM with Modric, Bale and Kranjcar. We have enough good midfielders as it is. One strong attacking CM will do us this summer.

The only thing that's good about this transfer saga by the way is the fact that we're likely to find out where he's going sooner rather than later. I can't imagine he'd want to go too long without a club. He'd take a full pre-season to get to know the players.

I'd rather we broke the bank for the German player Ozil, he's younger, and has as much talent, but I hear Arsenal's interested and so are other big teams

---------------Gomes---------------
Corluka---- King---- Kjaer---- Bale---
Lennon---- Hudd----Cole -----Modric
-----------Dzeko----Defoe----------
Yeah, its one of those 'I wish' teams but its the first time I've done one.
I think Cole would be really good for us, strong on the ball, can pick out a pass. Maybe with him we can play through the center sometimes instead of outwide always?

Cole has stated he wants to play in the middle and that could define the club he goes to.

Unless he had just trained with half of them in the England set up.

...I am sure our limit is not £60K a week any more either.
There is no "wage limit" or "wage cap" at Tottenham. There is an overall target that total wages should not exceed a certain percentage (I think it's 52% or thereabouts) of annual turnover.
If the club doesn't want to pay more than (say) £70k, it's not because there is a limit, it's because they don't want it to fuel further wage inflation in the squad, in order to keep wages under the prescribed percentage of turnover.

I'm still not convinced about Joe Cole. Always liked him as a player but i am really not sure what he can bring to our team that is that much different to what we already have in Luka Modric. Unless (shudder at the thought) Modric is gonna leave!
JC says that where ever he goes it will be to play regularly and to play centrally. Can we offer him that guarantee?? And even though he says centrally he doesn't specify whether midfield or attack, so perhaps (and better imo) if we did get him he would play off a front man. But then we have Defoe??
I think we should just be looking to strengthen the key areas we need to for now. Centre Back, right back, maybe left back and a striker. But then "Arry always did like a transfer or two!

Since most of my family are Chelsea fans I've watched more Chelsea matches than I'd prefer. Anyway I've watched a fair amount of Joe Cole and I'd say he is only rarely producing that gem of a play which was his trademark. For me he is not worth the top pay at Spurs or anywhere else. I'd rather pass.

M Ozil would be a great buy , or another player that would give us more options as he can play as a L/M C/M S/T is S Jovetic
