Source: Sky Sports Spurs striker set to play key role. Robbie Keane has been told that he has every chance of playing a major role at Tottenham this season. Keane was loaned out to Celtic during the winter transfer window after Harry Redknapp decided that he could get through the second half of last term without the Irish striker. Redknapp has stated this summer that he would only consider letting Keane go out on loan again if the player was unhappy with his level of involvement at White Hart Lane. Keane faces stiff competition for a place up front but it appears he has played his way back to the top of the pecking order after some impressive performances in pre-season. Fantastic The 30-year-old followed up his goal against New York Red Bulls by finding the target again in Sunday's 2-2 draw with Sporting Lisbon, and could now start Tottenham's Premier League opener at home to Manchester City on 14th August. "His situation is that he is still a very, very good player," said Redknapp. "He looked sharp and bright and he is still very much in the plans. "He wants to start every game and if he keeps playing as he did today, he can do. "It was a fantastic finish and he is a quality player, one of our better players. "There is every chance he could start." |

Dont be silly Krancjar, he's surplus and even useless according to many who post on here. We're too big for him now we're in the Champions League...although we're not yet are we? Also I love the fact that he came back from Liverpool and had a poor rest of the season so thats him...written off...sure I remember Defoe having a spell of not being too clever. |

| Robbie Keane has always been one of the most inconsistent players I can remember. Not game by game but in spells. In a hot streak he is a fantastic player and on that basis I think he strengthens our squad. If he is looking to be the main man week in / week out he needs to move on though. |

| See, still makes me laugh that professionals, players, managers and journo's admire him and go on about what an influence he is, how talented he is, yet so many Spurs fans just snipe him constantly. He's got the talent and, whilst i'd love him to pick up the form of a couple of seasons ago simply because it would benefit the team, now i want him to do it so he can shut up all these kids who don't understand the contribution he makes. |

First in the absence of any offers he is given a lot of pitch time pre-season, which given Keane's erratic form is a high risk strategy. However it pays off because he plays well in an unfamiliar role. Next is the announcement that he is not for sale, because he has a key role in Harry's plans. After that, not even for £15 million although every player has his price. Then that he has ben sold to Villa for £10 million. |
