Defoe has never scored more than 13 goals in a season before though. These were his stats with us:

2007-08 19 4
2006-07 34 10
2005-06 36 9
2004-05 35 13
2003-04 15 7

Re. Capel - if we got a winger like that then we'd still need a number 10 as well and we'd also probably need to play two DM to get away with it - which is looking a bit like a Modric-less side.

Was that starts or appearances including coming on with five minutes left?

distin and diarra would do very nicely. i dont think defoe would compliment bent or pav so wouldnt be going too strongly after him but after saying that he could do a job for any team outside top 4 so wouldnt be gutted to see him coming back but reckon their could be better options 'arry would know about

I meant total goals (Prem, Uefa, LC, FAC). Keane and Berbs never got that many in the league either, but got 46 between them in all competitions last season. I'll be surprised if this season, providing he stays fit, Defoe doesn't get 20+ goals and I don't think Bent will be too far behind him, as long as he gets the games.

Can't Capel track back? We finished the game with Lennon and Bentley on either wing yesterday.

I would like Diarra but I have to say, begrudgenly, is there not another team in London needing a DM, who have more french connections? Gauranteed a game at gooners I think we may struggle to compete, no matter how much we overvalue Harrys draw on the player.

Maybe I am too sceptical. I also don't see us getting him for any less than £12/15m, which for a tackling nut job seems a bit pricey.

Wenger's already got rid of him once... why would he take him back, and why would he go back?

What about a loan perhaps?

i dont think 12m for diarra would be too pricey. lets face it we badly need a DM and he is a very good DM and because of his age would have a good resell value so it wouldnt be a bad deal for us at all.

He only left scum because he wasnt playing (now there is no Gilberto or Flamini he would) and Whinger rates him, he didnt want him to go in the first place. Dont get me wrong, I would love him to join. But I think it would be naive to think that they wont play a significant part in the deal.

Wenger rates him as a player but I've heard he may not be too keen on him as a person. I don't see him going back to Arsenal, despite the fact he could do a great job there. Also, I can't see Arsenal paying the £12m+ it will take to get him and would imagine they will go for someone with more experience.

Very predictable ITK. I thought Diarra's deal was meant to happen in the last window.

It was.
And had Joey Barton agreed to go to Pompey, it would've happened. Barton pulled out of the move at the last moment, which caused ours to fall flat at the last moment too...

So has the law to stop the info leaking gone with Ramos?

Yeah - we'll be back to the Kemsley days where everyone knew who we were signing even before the player did. All the old guard ITKs from the Jol era can come back out of their retirement and every bookie and greyhound goer within a 30 miles radius of the M3 will also be able to post info too.

But there were leaks on most of our signings minus Modric no?

Thought Huddlestone had a good game yesterday tbh. Been wantiing him in the Starting XI for a while. Dont really see the need for Diarra when Tommy is at the club.

Just trying to think - Gomes came from PSV, Dos Santos announced he was in talks himself though Paul Smith also had some news on those two, Bentley everyone knew about, I had said we were in talks with Pav from late July and Corluka was broken by Gary Jacob in the Times.

Dan do you seriouslt think that AA is still an option? I very much doubt it as the chances of him signing for us was slim with us bottom, with JR now gone so have our chances of getting AA aswell....

That was kind of my point that all transfers were known about pre confirmation, apart from Modric, and that few leaks were plugged.
