A United fan is persistently arguing that we're hypocrites.

As he says that we went to the courts to complain about SAF tapping up Berba and then we go and tap up JD at Pompey by declaring our interest in Defoe?

If you don't understand the above (probly cos its completely wrong). I'll give you all some nice big quotes of him explaining his argument...

I'm in agreement with the United fans. Either we have agreed a fee and it's just blustery guff from our manager who just can't keep his gob shut, or it's blatant tapping up of not only Defoe, but Bellamy too. It can't be anything else.

Yes we are, BIG TIME hypocrites. When you have a manager who is blatantly talking about other teams players, what else can it be? Make's Levy look like a tit now after last summers farce...

West Ham went public with the Bellamy bid according to an interview I saw on SSN. I can't say wether this holds true for Defoe and TBH I couldn't care less as we've been on the receiving end of these tactics so often ourselves.

I know two wrongs don't make a right, but.......meh

Redknapp claims it was West Ham who released the fact we had bid for Bellamy, but I guess their is truth in hypocracy claims. Shame our chairman has so little self-awareness in these matters.

Actually, i dont think we are hypocrites. We just happen to have a different manager now, who is more old school like Sir Alex when it comes to transfers. Harry is more vocal about the transfer window than our previous managers.

Most teams tap players up, its no secret. And theres nothing that can really be done about it. I'm personally more upset with the way Berbatov treated us than i am about Man Utds aproach. Players will always find out about another Clubs interest, whether the Club reveals it to the media or not. Its the players not honouring their contract or showing respect to their clubs that pisses me off the most.

Levy told United Berba wasn't for sale and not to approach the club with any more offers for him. That changed when Berba refused to play. Both Wham and Pompey have indicated that they are willing to listen to offers for our respective targets at their clubs.

We were already proven hypocrites cos of the whole Ramos from Sevilla saga. And whilst West Ham and Portsmouth might be ready to listen to offers I'm not sure Boro will be so happy about Redknapp mentioning Downing at every opportunity.

Personally I'm not comfortable about Redknapp talking about other teams players when a fee has yet to be agreed. I think it's bad manners at best. But he has always had trouble keeping his trap shut.

We certainly don't do ourselves any favours. We were caught with our pants down tapping up Wendy. Noone could argue that. In all honestly what we've done with Defoe is probably as bad as what Utd ever did with Berbatov except they did it over a longer period than us. HR was quite explicit in that WHU went public regarding Bellamy before us.

I try not to worry. We (the fans) can't be responsible for what our management does. No management are 100% clean either.

We are absolute hypocrites - so you can't be upset with Berba/Utd because thats the way we treat others as well.

Unless Levy is spectacularly stupid and completely lacking in self-awareness, his apparent displeasure and righteous anger at United's (and Liverpool's) 'tapping-up' was nothing more than an exercise in extracting an extra couple of mill from each of them.

In the end we still sold him.

Depends on your definition of 'tapping-up', I suppose. Publicly expressing admiration for a player isn't tapping up in my book. Clandestine meetings with players and agents is.

Maybe, maybe not, If you listen to the bbc sports interview with HR (available on website) then No, HR stated that West Ham disclosed our bid for Bellamy and answered a direct question regarding JD honestly, unlike SAF he stated that he was interested but if Pompey dont want to sell then thats the end of the matter and we move on whereas SAF continued using the media to persue his target. Unfortunately, as others have already stated our management team were proven hypocrites over the Ramos affair.
It's good to hear openly, given our current position, that the club are trying to do something to improve the situation with the team which is a better option for them to keep the fans happy imo.

It is always open season for rumors, gossip, tapping-up and such.

So why bother complaining.

That's football!
