I like the theory of inverted wingers, but when we tried it earlier this season it was a bit of a disaster. Bale's definitely a touchline player, rather than a cutting in player.
Simpler solution is just to buy a #9 who can get on the end of crosses.

At the moment Bale is not a good dribbler. He needs to improve this part of his game, especially if he is to be played as an inverted winger.
This year his knock the ball on and chase it move has barely worked, if he played on the right what would he do?
I thought Bale looked quite good on the right when he came on as sub one game (think it was Wolves?) just after coming back from injury as well.
Same as any situation really he would need regular games in that position to get used to it. You can't throw someone in for 5 minutes here, 6 minutes there and then say "fucking hell, he's shit in that position!"
How is he meant to learn under those circumstances? Bearing in mind he's had 1 full season in our first team - are we expecting miracles?
Was about to post similar.
Bale could (and possibly will) become this type of player but let's get him fit and playing to his greatest potential before trying to mess around with his playing style.
I suppose now the "Is he a left back or a left winger" threads have quietened down this kind of suggestion was inevitable, though.
so true and it happens all the time, instant gratification or he's shit lol
Agreed, that's the nature of the world we live in I suppose. Everything must be right now, or don't bother!
Personally I'd like to give Bale time to develop into the player we all know/think he can be. But already (as above) people are saying "he's not as good as everyone thinks"
Why do we do that? Why do we build people up just to knock them down? Rather than encouraging further development?
No. Personally I don't rate Bale as highly as some
others. He's been found out on the left hand side with his kick and run method. I think at least from the right hand side he would be able
to cut in more and pose more of an all round threat.

Because currently he is worth £40+ mil and I think there are better players in his position out there who would be available for a lot less.
I personally think Bale would be fantastic in a midfield 3 and maybe we could develop him there.

No because he's going to be the Chelsea manager at 7pm this evening, obviously....
