I think Pienaar's got just as much bite as him, I'd maybe even (and I never thought I'd say this) play Dawson and Bassong at the back and play Kaboul in there. Everton are pretty toothless.

I just dunno about Livermore, plus Everton are no Man City. I could see a Modric, Pienaar and VdV middle three keeping a lot of the ball. Livermore's a funny one, hmmn.

It's bad when I'm thinking of playing Bassong in place of him. Rock and a hard place.

This!!!!!

Never heard of that other striker but that's still a pretty strong team. As long as they don't park the bus for a smash and grab it's there to be won.

I predict a nice high tempo start for Spurs, 70% possession, 10 shots, Saha scores from a punt down field and we hammer them for the rest of the match.

Interesting stat

This season, no Everton striker has scored when they have started the match.

I think Parker will play....otherwise he would be ruled out completely. Don't see what difference 24 hours is really going to make....Harry holding his cards close to his chest etc...

or maybe its alot more serious than he is letting on knowing how important he is to team and what fans and media wud make of it if it got out

Friedel

Walker Kaboul Bassong Assou-Ekottu

Lennon Livermore Modric Bale

VdV
Adebayor

Subs: Cudicini, Rose, Dawson, Pienaar, Krancjar, Defoe, Pav.

I hope Bassong is given a chance; Daws is not quite there yet.

Niggling suspicion that Harry might start Pienaar instead of Livermore.

Realistically then Everton's team is likely to be:

Howard

Neville Heitinga Distin Baines

Donovan Feillani Bilyawotsit Drenthe

Saha Gueye

If that's their team it should actually be a very open game which should suit us.

If Hibbert isn't fit that side is a possibility, if he is Neville will slot in beside Feillani.

Another option is their young defender in Duffy playing beside Distin with Heitinga in midfield.

I hope Neville is at RB, he won't live with Bale this time and doesn't have the energetic Coleman to double up on him with.

Neville vs. Bale will be fascinating, in fairness, Neville had Bale in his pocket last year, but he'll need help from someone else if he is to do th same this year.

I think that Everton are almost certain to line up with a 4-5-1 regardless of personnel. I would envisage a team of:
.............................Howard
..............Neville Distin Heitinga Baines
Donovan Fellaini Drenthe Bilyatdinov Mcfadden
...............................Saha

If that's the team, it won't be as easy as some are suggesting. Both Donovan and Mcfadden are capable of getting goals whilst Drenthe and Fellaini are a very physical pair. Looking at the defence all I can say is that is a very experienced back line.

We were a much more rigid side last year than now so would expect to see Bale and VdV popping up all over the pitch.

Bale is always learning the trade and I've witnessed he's fast becoming a very shrewd footballer now.

He roams around the field more and that is also probably down to Harry.

Someone who knows and remembers the legendary John White told me lately, that he likens him to Bale as ' The Ghost ' of the modern era.

So, I am led to believe that Neville will not have the same luck as last year in containing Bale tomorrow night.

You just know this is going to be another tough 90 minutes where we have a majority of the ball with the oppo content to sit deep, cramp the space in their half and hopefully hit us with a suckerpunch on the break... such are the consequences now of being a being a bloody good side.

I also dread having to endure 90 minutes of fans around me shouting at us to 'PLAY WITH MORE PACE, WE'RE PLAYING TO SLOWLY', entirely missing the point that it's bloddy difficult to play with pace when the opposition sits on it's own goalline for the entire game. It's like giving Jimmy Anderson a one pace run up and ask him to bowl at full pace.

It takes craft and guile to open up opportunities in these games, particularly when we have the ball in deeper lying positions - fortunately we have the master of this Luka Modric pulling strings around the pitch. Moving the ball around in front of them well is key, this means lots of sideways and backwards passes which get the inevitable groans from those brought up with the typical direct style of English football, but this is how we must play. You just have to keep the ball, probe for openings and eventually one player will break ranks and give us that pocket of space for someone to work some magic - fortunately we have plenty of players who can do this.

For me, and I'll discount Scotty P, I'd plump for the 4-3-3...

Friedel
Walker Dawson Kaboul BAE
Livermore
Pienaar Modric
VDV------------Bale
Ade

Our full backs will be of vital importance tomorrow too, when teams sit deep they are the only players who have any space in front of them to generate any momentum, and also are key to outnumbering them in wide areas - I even think there is a strong case for playing Bale at left back in order for him to be able to attack from deep with pace, rather than have his space stifled - which Everton did so well against him last year.

Massive game, all season long we've been adding the 'with a game in hand' phrase to any talk of where we are in the table, so it would be a crime to not waste this golden opportunity. Win and we are massively in the title race.

They did do well with Bale last season but I remember that being a very flat game after the Inter game etc....

A well rested Bale will be another proposition for them altogether and they won't have the energetic Coleman to help in stifling him. A worthy point regarding him at full back, coming at them from deep etc, but I would go for Lennon in this game if he's good to go and I'm also betting Parker starts.

I'm expecting:

Friedel, Walker, Dawson, Kaboul, Ekotto, Lennon, Parker, Modric, Bale, VDV, Ade

* and Livermore for Scotty if he doesn't make it.

Going to this and I'm pumped

Didn't realise that was right after the Inter game, but I suppose they both perfectly demonstrated in my mind the best way to handle Bale, and of course the worst. Maicon sat off (with bugger all help it must be said) and trusted his pace, but it was clear after 10 minutes that he couldn't get within 5 postcodes of Bale that night. Neville though got right up Bale's arse, didn't let him turn and he was nullified.

I would start with Bale ahead of Benny as standard tomorrow, but would certainly have Bale as LB as a go to option if we are struggling to break them down.

Forgot about Lennon too, I actually think that Lennon is possibly a little better than Bale at playing in cramped spaces in and around the box, an area Bale needs to improve on a bit. When there is space in front of him to attack, there are very few in world football who are as scintillatingly scary and effective though.

Be very interesting to see what H goes with, I think in order to keep this title push going 'til the Spring he may need to be a bit more bold and innovative tactically to keep winning these type of games - early goal would be lovely, it's all about the first goal.

Don't know how true it is, but someone brought up a stat that we concede 40% of our goals in the last 20 minutes and Everton score 45% of their goals in the last 10.
As usual I will wait till we are 27-0 up with 4 seconds to go.

Can't see much different. Unless Harry thinks Dawson's ready.
