Yeah, but BC often simplifies in this way.
Dropping back, losing the initiative, or even just taking our foot of the gas, after playing fantastically well to more-or-less win the match (which we then do under pressure), and he will categorise the whole performance, rather than a part of it as shit.

No offence, BC, and not wanting to initiate one of our infamous and interminable 500 page arguments, but you do do this. The second half performance against Wigan was disappointing, because we could have really biatch slapped them - but they had a part in it by upping their game. But that doesn't mean we played shit against Wigan.

The point was, which you seemed to miss, that Redknapp being present didn't mean we played any better against Watford - for 90 minutes - or Wigan for 45. It was a poor excuse for a performance that lacked ambition.

We weren't shit against Wigan at all. And we have played well against City, Arsenal, Chelsea and destroyed Liverpool this season so it's clueless to say we have been second best against them. In none of those games have we completely dominated other than Liverpool but then they are all top teams and some of them have better, costlier and more experienced players than we do.

I do wonder how you coped in the 1990s when we were genuinely average at best when you piss and moan on here every week when we sit third in the table now. Last night was messy, we didn't attack well, were missing players and had our manager away but it was hardly terrible. I believe Liverpool is unbeaten at home this season so a draw is a decent result.

We didn't play well against Arsenal until there was about 20 minutes to go, the rest of the game we were outplayed. First 15 minutes we played well against Chelsea, next 60 they dominated, then it got a bit even for the last 15. Completely outplayed by City at WHL. Outplayed by Liverpool away. Definitely didn't outplay City away.

By second best I meant the opposition controlled more of the ball and the game in all those games and in all but one of those games (Arsenal), didn't score more goals.

Isn't it time you learnt a better coping mechanism for dealing with nasty men on the internet who say nasty things about their football team ? For someone who doesn't like pissing and moaning, you seem to do fuck all else.

Liverpool wern't that great though...pretty even first half, and for all their possession second half they didn't create that many clear cut openings.

To me dominance has to include the quality of your football as well, not just possession with little real threat. That said we did defend well.

Well whatever criteria you want to apply, they did it better. Had more ball, more territory and showed more ambition. And their football contained more "quality" than ours.

I didn't say they were very good, in fact I was at pains to point out how unimaginative Liverpool were. But surely that just makes our performance all the more disappointing doesn't it ?

What would you have done at Half Time BC?

First half seemed fairly even to me, both teams feeling each other out in the middle of the park, Liverpool with slightly more initiative.

Yeah I guess that's fair...some good individual defensive performances were really the only positives to take from it, other than the obvious point we got.

Just think the term out played is a tad strong even though its true in a sense, but only because we weren't great on the ball as such...in other words it was more down to us not playing to our ability on the ball rather than Liverpool performing really well.

I guess I'm splitting hairs though.

I didn't miss any point whatsoever.
I mae a siomple, one-off coment on one thing you said - that we were shit against Wigan. We were not shit against Wigan, we were disappointing in the second half, after being very effective in the first. So, as I said, it is a simplification to say we weere shit for the whole game. I didn't say you were wrong to be unhappy with the second half, and I didn't try to obfuscate over Redknapp's prescence.

I can't remember making any big argument about Redknapp's abscence on Monday night - though I have read it, and do suspect that, over the whole of the 90 minutes, he may have waved the lads forward a bit. But that wasn't the main issue, for me the main issue was the abscences in the starting line-up and on the bench.

But, like I said, I made a simple comment on your simplification in saying we were shit against Wigan, and not something about Redknapp's abscence that you seem to think I missed within your point about the performance against Wigan. For the record, you are right: I think Redknapp's abscence on Monday night was a factor, but we have performed poorly, on occasion, when he was present, so it wasn't the only factor.

Liverpool haven't been a 'classy' team for some time, if ever.
They work hard, are aggressive and have been very succesful.

However despite Parker's performance and putting his body on the line for the team, Gerrard was a class above everyone except Modric on the night.
His control and quick distribution, powerful runs and normally his shooting ability
are top class and without him over the past several seasons Liverpool would be half the team they have been.
They have detiorated into a rather nasty team and even Adams who is a terrific passer of the ball has an over aggressive side to his game.
Kuyt typifies the modern Liverpool, moderately talented and hard working.

But it was agood strategic point for us to maintain our position against Chelsea and Man.Utd and block off any revival by Liverpool.
Now to deal with Newcastle and |Man.Utd but we will have to play better.

Shame for Liverpool that he only has an hour or so in him these days, he went AWOL after about 65mins on Mon night. Thought Modric played very, very well as did my scouse supporting mates...

Gave Dawson MOM though Walker, King and Parker impressed too.

Funnily enough, I thought Kuyt was their best player on the night, and was relieved when they subbed him for Adolf.

Was it just me or did it seem like Liverpool passed the ball backwards more than most other teams we've played away?
