Wasn't he meant to be the dogs bollocks when we signed him, too much money too quickly I fear, shows that to make it at the very top you need attitude and ability

Ben Pearce (@BenPearceSpurs)

#thfc Bostock was subbed at half-time in the recent 2-1 defeat against Exeter. Gary Megson hinted at his displeasure with him...

#thfc Megson: 'We have some players here who are playing as if they are doing us a favour. They think they are better than they are.'

He's made himself into something that isn't that common in the lower leagues, a number 10 - type attacking midfielder, like Van der Vaart. So he gets shoved out on the wings in most of his loans. I don't think the loans are doing him any good at all, he'd probably be better off staying here.

Of course, he probably should be trying to become a more rounded central midfield player. Maybe he is trying, I don't know.

The rumoured attitude problems don't help. If they are true then he won't make it. If not, then he's got plenty of time to get his head down and work on his game.

He's been badly managed by all concerned. If he is as talented as we are made to believe, I'm sure someone along the way would have preserved with him. Yes, questions of application and attitude need answering.

He needs a fresh chance somewhere else, maybe similar to Taarabt.
.
If I had any talent and skill as a footballer, the last person I'd look to nurture and develop me, would be Gary Megson.

This was a bad choice by the club to send him there

Of course he might not be that good. The only reason we hear so much about him is because Crystal Palace kicked up a fuss when we signed him. If they hadn't he'd be just another youth player trying to make it.

It all began to go wrong when we bought him and the club said it was with a view to integration in the 1st team sooner rather than later...and that in a floundering team. It increased the weight of the fans' expectations fo him to an unreasonable level, and it must have, I am sure, magnified every little failure and disappointment in his head, to the point where he should have been thinking after, say 2 years, I am only 18 YO there is plenty of time, and instead himself and everyone was thinking two years and he's done nothing = FAILURE.

Horrible player management.

Perhaps he isn't. He'd hardly be the first Great White Hope to fail to live up to expectations.

he was hyped up at a young age by a team that wanted to attract interest (see also victor moses). at 16 he was strong for his age and had ability but as the other 16 year olds grew stronger he stayed the same and appeared to lack the desire to push on after securing his move to us.

He's not the first over-rated youngster, and won't be the last. Sure, when we bought him he was quite talented for his age, but where his peers continued to improve and develop, his talent had already peaked and in time they surpassed him.

Maybe it was because he was hyped so much that he believed it and stopped trying so hard.

Anyone remember Jody Morris? Chelseas next big thing?

If I recall correctly, he was pretty darn good for Palace when he got into their team in a wide left attacking role.

Also, when he came on for us in Europe during Harry's first season in charge he looked quite good too.

I think he has the ability, it just appears his attitude stinks.

Players with lesser ability but a much better attitude get further than people who become too big for their boots.

Didn't work hard enough

Still time though. Has everything to play in the premierleague. Remember watching the Spurs youth vs Arsenal youth a few years ago. Turned on to watch Bostock but Wilshere was a man playing against boys.

Still like Townsend and Ryan Mason the best.

Doesn't one of his relations post here?

I seem to recall a similar thread a couple of months ago where someone posted that he was due to go on loan to San Jose Earthquakes. One poster (his relation?) suggested that Bostock's progress had been delayed by a bad injury.

Title should be 'John Bostock - when was it actually right?'

Giovani Dos Santos, Adel Taarabt, John Bostock the list goes on. These players are just not as good as they are hyped to be.

A kid who showed something a bit different, but didn't want to work hard to show it for a prolonged time.
