I am generally in the pro-Walker camp.
But I did think at the start of the season that we should have went with Charlie, and used Walker for cup games/back up, at least until Christmas.

Has a lot to learn, still.
Yep he's still a young man and will be a top player but I think the season is cathing up with him.

We should play a youth team player at RB vs Stevenage.

That shouldn't be necessary. If Harry wants to rest Walker, who was actually one of our better performers last week against Arsenal, we can go three at the back, just play Kaboul at rightback, or we have Nathan Byrne available, who has plenty of League One experience and isn't cup tied.

Friedel 6- Nothing wrong as such, I just wonder whether he could be a bit more dominant for corners. Seems to stick on his line.

Walker 4 - At fault for 2 goals IMO. Delivery when going forward is poor.

King 6 -Looks slow, still got the brain though.

Kaboom 6 - Looked poor

BAE 6- Got beaten a few times, offset with his forward play which was decent.

Lennon 7.5 - Took his man on - very direct and was the only player who looked like he was going to create anything. Dangerous and showed good form.

Sandro 7- Kept Scholes very quiet.

Modric 6- Awful set pieces. Not his fault that he was put in a weaker position. Ball retention was good.

Livermore 7- Did exceptionally well for the first 60 mins and then tired. Very impressive. Developing well.

Ade 5 - Looks bereft of confidence. Worked harder than last week, but I still feel he should put more of a shift in. Ball retention was average.

Saha 5- Kept the ball better than Ade, but did not really threaten the United CB's

Subs

Defoe - 7 - Good impact Sub - give him 20 and he can do this. Give him 90 and he will be anonymous.

Kranky/Rose - 6 - Meh.

Yeah...I was agreeing with you (in a roundabout way). He has clearly had knocks to his ankle and knee that he is carrying and has often had to act as the sole genuine width in the attacking third on the right.

I think Walker may have been played into the ground.
I hope he's rested against Stevenage but we don't have much back up for his position.

Not surprised, we shifted a load of player and only brought in Saha..... Fucking Saha.

Yep I think Walker could do with a rest. Wouldnt surprise me if we go three at the back again, or Kaboul at RB with Nelsen and Dawson in the centre.

Aren't you all forgetting that Adam Smith was recalled from Leeds to provide back-up for Walker? He is the current England U21 right back and as a 20-year old did not need to be registered in the 25 man squad.

Livermore was excellent today, plenty think he offers fuck all...well I'm afraid there is a player in there and he's coming on very well indeed. Defended him to the hilt recently so one positive for me today was his contribution.

Overall I think we played well but yet again we lacked that belief, and in this case we failed to punish them with all our possession and territory, and of course we switched off which presented them with two easy goals - that lost us the game, the third totally killed us.

We made them look poor today yet they win by a comfortable scoreline in the end, only we are capable of doing that against them.

But its not all doom and gloom, we did get a decent response after last week and we were a bit unlucky the way key moments unfolded. Between Saha and Adebayor they fucked up what should of be a certain opening goal for us, and after playing so well they nick a goal right on the stroke of half time - horrendous timing from our point of view, a total kick in the balls for our efforts in the first half.

A break a break my kingdom for a break.

We can't seem to buy one against those ****s.

To start at the beginning, I have to credit Redknapp. His selections were pretty much forced on him, but he could have been tempted to keep Modric central and put Kranjcar wide, but he didn't and the line up worked and it worked because more importantly he made sure we pressed better today, and whenever we do this, we look a much better side. I just wish we could do it more.

The first half performance was excellent, and was a clear reminder that Modric in CM isn't mandatory for ball domination or a good performance. We were pressing them out of the ball and doing all the right things on it ourselves. What started it though was after the first 5 minutes of ManU looking bright, we had a little spell where we got hold of the ball and passed it around the back and side to side. Cue the wankers behind me grumbling about the ball not going forwards. But we built from this little spell. By starving ManU of the ball for a few minutes we took the wind from their sails and didn't look back for at least an hour. Having proved we could keep it from them we seemed to grow in confidence and for the rest of the half played all the football.

Then history repeated itself. We don't get the breaks and they do. We were unlucky first of all that our player found himself in the way of a goal, then unlucky that he gets given handball for the goal he scores. Then Utd go up the other end and score to give the half a completely unjust scoreline.

Second half we come out and are still on top when Modric disengages his brain and we somehow find ourselves two down. We continued top plug away but started to get a bit long ball, and the third goal, scored by the otherwise pretty shit Young, really killed us. Heads visibly dropped, understandably.

Lennon was good enough today to make Bale's absence unnoticeable. Livermore had a pretty decent game too. He didn't do anything spectacular, but just did plenty of good simple stuff that helped us dominate the middle of the pitch. Both strikers worked hard.

We did lots of things right collectively today, but were let down by a couple of small individual errors and the lack of a lucky break.

Ratings:

Friedel 6 - He's a solid line limpet, but I really hope our next keeper is far more proactive.

Walker 6.5 - He was Ok today, and he works hard, seeing quite a lot of the ball today, but was culpable for the first goal I think.

Kaboul 7 - OK.

King 7 - OK.

Ekotto 7 - Played quite well, saw plenty of ball.

Lennon 7.5 - Was very bright today and worked hard.

Livermore 7.5 - Good game

Sandro 7.5 - Good game. His early biting helped establish our stronghold on the midfield, he refused to let Scholes settle on the ball.

Modric 7 - I thought he was good today generally, and I like it when he has less responsibility, but was heavily culpable for the second goal.

Saha 6.5 - Worked hard.

Adebayor 7 - Worked hard.

BC, I agree with your whole assessment completely, other than Walker. Not sure if you're trying to counter not being too hard on him for having a pretty set opinion on him, but you're rating is pretty generous.

I'm a fan of Walker's but he was sloppy today, very. Hand a hand in all three goals really, and the first one was dreadful.

I thought Saha started the game really well, he tailed off though. Between VDV and Saha we should be looking to use the pair of them at varying points in games given their fitness and contribution for a full 90 minutes.

Starting VDV with Saha to come on could be the way to go when the former returns to fitness, for some games anyway.
