The poster above said he's like Lennon, I don't see how such a comparison can be made.

I would have thought it was a great bit of business to get him.
But on reflection, some posters commented at the tme, that he would be a Brucy Bonus kinda signing, but he didn't really fill any of the positions we really needed to improve drastically in. I have reached the conclusion that they were right. It is a lot of money to be paying for a player who has the potential to flop massively. The Chavs are under so much pressure to perform at the very top of the division (and, as I keep on saying, they no longer even have the biggest stick in the playground), that there is a real risk that a new manager coming in and struggling for results could quite easily bench him,and how will he react to that - after all his mouthing off about wanting to play, and the effect of singing for them on Lukaku.

Verts, on the other hand, is exactly what we needed. He is older, more mature, and, seemingly, a bit wiser, and less mercenary. As we have just seen, he is verstile. And, for a centre-half of his quality, not massively overpriced.

I think we have got a better deal, here, adn one that has far less chance of failure. Hope Hazard gets just what he deserves at Chelsea (y)

Hazard has never done it for Belgium, club level is a different story, belgian and french journalists have said Eden Hazard at club level is a different player.

Nobody impressed me for Belgium other than Dembele... not even Vertonghen, looked slow[/quote]

Not sure what game you were watching but he was anything but slow looking....made up ground on Young like no tomorrow.

I think it is one of those cases of he was playing on the left and wasn't as fast as Bale when attacking and therefore must be SLOW :eek::eek:

Yeah!!!

I thought he was petty steady all round though. Not sure what some are expecting....a CB playing at LB, even though he's competent - I wasn't expecting a Bale Inter esque performance :)

Agreed.

I can only remember one occasion when Vertonghen got done for pace (Walcott / 2nd half) and apart from that I thought he held his own out wide.

Vertonghen looks no slower than most centre backs really. He reads the game well though and looks very composed. I like his ability to come out with the ball and add another midfielder of sorts.

I thought both Hazard and Mertens linked up really well at times but lacked that cutting edge when they got into the box. I imagine Hazard and Mata will work a great understanding together for Chelsea.

The question however will be how well will they do in a negative Di Matteo approach. They need Di Matteo to take a note of Mancini's notebook to bring the best out of these creative players they have now.

Com'on...normally I wouldn't really slate a player for going to one of our rivals, especially one who was considerably above us in the league and paid massive wages, but this numpty specifically referenced Chelsea right from the onset castigating them for the negative impact they had had on Lukaku's career. I really do hope he bombs at Chelsea...and not just because of the contempt I feel for the Chavs.

Not fussed tbh. Another full of shit story about moving for football and not money but then goes to a team with a declining squad and no manager because they paid him the most. chelscum want to steal the limelight back from shitty but if they add Hulk as well then they will be blatantly fluanting FFP and proving it's all bull.

32m player?

plus 5mill to the agent, which generally comes out of the transfer fee so in actual fact he's a 37mill player

he could be a good player one day but he's not a 37mill player yet, its just so typical that they pay overs for the likes of him
