All this hand wringing about vertonghen.... maybe it is all done and dusted and the hold up could simply be that ajax have requested that the announcement is delayed to give them time to get a replacement lined up to appease their fans. Its not 100% ITK, but my mate in amsterdam has hinted that ajax do this quite often when selling a popular player. Verts was /is pretty valued by ajax fans and they would be understandably pissed that he is going (although its no secret), it makes it far easier to swallow as a fan, if a replacement is coming in. Imagine the news being released that Modric has been sold, however here's Eriksen and Joe Allen....spoonful of sugar etc etc etc. J ust thought i would put this out there to ward off unneccessary self harming.

Deschamps was spoken too; even if it wasn't formal.
Nobody is giving much away but Blanc is flavour of month.
And it will be easy to put either in to the new set up.
Also Deschamps has turned down a big paying job in UAE and hes definitly off.
as soon as news released on Harry i got 40s for Deschamps.

Deschamps is the one but from everything thats going on ive got a FEELING about blanc.
buts it all about the set up and who will fit best.

so after waffling on; in answer to your question i would say Deschamps over blanc

I'm not ITK bashing but I would be remiss if I didn't point out that you have a really curious level of English for a journalist.

Sure, some could be typos or just rushed but others...

Deschamps is still at 25/1 on W Hill. I've got 30 quid on him at that, and 45 on Blanc also at 25/1. Have done for the past couple of days. Blanc's odds have shortened to 6/1 on there this morning though. So yeah, you can still get 25/1 on Deschamps on there....

This is nothing compared to Corluka.

Or Kaboul. That was all '100% done', remember. BEN's mate (or was it Archibald?) was sitting with him in some pub in Chigwell and BEN was off to meet him, and then days passed, and weeks…

Reading Jacob's info, I'm struck by the fact that Joe Lewis is suddenly taking an interest. 'Big plans', eh? Would these involve pumping his millions into the squad so we're on something approaching a level playing field with City and Chelsea? Or is this just guff to keep the peasants happy?

I reckon the Levi is waiting for the launch of new kit (and sponsors), new training ground to be finished off, new manager signing and Vertonghen signing + others to all be announced and shown off all on the same day, it would be quite a good day too imo. The future of spurs revealed!

To be fair, I'm still waiting for the exciting storm Jacob said was about to hit N17 last July...
Was just thinking about this. Trying to get excited about it, but then I just remembered the white storm he was talking about last summer.

Amazingly, Deschamps is 66/1 with Bet Victor, 40's a couple of other places and 33's with a few others and Blanc is now as low as 4/1 with Boyle Sports. AVB is now back at 8/11

I think that the new kit idea is a good one - also, in the past, we had to announce new signings to the stock exchange as a publically listed company - now we can wait and announce when we want to as a club. That could be why "100% done" deals are yet to emerge: want to control the media exposure.

Final thought: if Levy is abroad then who would stand there smiling like a buffoon in the photos? Need a recognisable club representative to be there...

Final final thought: if you were the new manager coming in, wouldn't you want to be seen to be doing the signings (even if they were long done beforehand) - hence, wait for the manager to be in place before the signings are paraded in front of the press.

Almost as if these odds had something to do with the number of people betting on the outcome. . .
I'm sure we could make a killing if we put our minds to it.

My take on the Vertonghen situation is that we're at a Mexican stand off and the first person to move loses. The fee is the problem and the closer we get to deadline day the more the pressure buiilds. Ajax know that Vertongen only wants Spurs and they don't want to lose him for nothing come end of season but are banking on the premise that Spurs need him enough to match their price (given our issues with age and injury at CB and our need for LB cover). Seems our Daniel loves this sort of thing. To my mind Vertonghen is done but it could be last minute dot com.
