Which, to take one example, Liverpool, is mad - when you reflect on how far ahead our philosophy and facilities are over theirs now, and yet they were considered to have one of the top 16 in the country.

I think Liverpool used to have opne of the best academies, but it went downhill under later years of Steve Heighway, and rfurther downh under Rafa. So its a long way back up - in parallel Everton have started to regularly produce a steady stream of young players from their academy

Yeah, necessity is the mother of invention and all that, but Everton has produced a stream of young players for a while now.

I suspect that part of the problem with Liverpool is that, much like when they were spending money on players while United were redevloping OT, they have spent so much money trying, forlornly, to catch United up on the pitch by overspending on players, that they neglected these areas. Still, had to laugh when one of the RAWKers suggested our new training facilities were almost omparable to their ramshackle crubmling edifice :ROFLMAO:

Bit of trivia - I think Filip Lasniak is the first Slovakian Spurs have had playing for us.

He was apparantly playing for MFK Koscise (city is fairly close to Slovak/Ukraine border) in the Nike Cup, which Slovakia won, when Spurs spotted him.

Hadjuk Split seem to be the standout team in the tournament in Group A - won their first 2 matches 4-0 and 3-0 today. Be interesting to see if they can repeat that tomorrow or if AA Gent and Anderlecht, who they played today, were relatively weak teams

Hadjuk Split seem to produce a few good young players out of Croatia - aside from Modric and Krancjar a young striker I thought we might go for is 21 year old Ante Vukusic, 2nd highest scorer in Croatian league last season and did ok the season before too.

Spurs are very light on speacialist defenders in this squad, the best defender at this level (Oliver Modeste) is now back in training after recovering friom being in intensive care but likely to be a month or two away from playing. The only specialist defender, Thomas Gardiner, played very little last season, however the squad has a number of players who have played CB (eg Alex McQueen and Dominic Ball) whilst FB duties will probably be mainly carried out by Grant Ward and Roman Michael-Percil

Thanks for the squad list - the highlighted players have progressed from last summer's NI Milk Cup squad with Liam Priestly being there this year as well. As you say, Oliver Modeste who was also in that squad was an outstanding defender - hope he makes a good recovery.

Good point re Milk Cup, think that Alex McQueen and Shaq Coulthirst were there too - but at a previous year. Darren McQueen was injured a lot and probably missed out because of that.

As I understand it Olie is making good progress but suspect he lost a lot of weight/muscle whilst in bed for a couple or three months so although he has resumed training it could take a while to fully get back to where he was - but at least he is back !

I think one of the McQueen's was there in 2010 but not sure which one. The 'star' of that year was Laste Dombaxe - what's happened to him of late?

It's good that that Olie's back, he reminded me of LK when I saw him last year. It'll take time to build up his recovery - hope it goes well for him, needs patience.

Spursidol, do you know why a Brazilian team are included in a European youth tournament? Surely they weren't short of participants in the whole of Europe?

The tournament is called Eurofoot and is held in Belgium, but is run by local clubs and not run as a European football competition - they have several times invited over non european sides, such as Spurs played Botofaga (sp) 2 seasons ago.

Think its partly done as a Brazilian side is seen as 'exotic' and part so the kids can play someone from a totally different footballing background - in much the same way as when Spurs played in a Mexican youth tournament a couple of years ago.

Think it was Alex - Darren had burst on the scene at the end of the previous seeason and when the squad was announced everyone assumed it was Darren - until we found his cousin Alex was also at Spurs.

Laste Dombaex has been 'promoted' direct to the professionals page from Academy Year 1 - played well last seasoin alongside Massimo Luongo in the NextGen Series matches.

Yup Ollie looked a different class - hope he makes a full recovery, but think it could be a couple of months before we see him in action again (but hope to be proved wrong and he plays sooner)

Couldn't we use some kinda revenge/rivalry motif against Modric to get them to give us all of their best players and conquer the World...or summit?

Great work mate. Just on the defenders, Darren McQueen has played LB on quite a few occasions.

Maybe that is why we have been making moves for the likes of Hall and Lascelles.
Remember, too, that the aim isn't to produce teams that win everything at a given age, it is to produce players that can move into the first team squad - that don't all have to come from exactly the same age-group.

Not good news, not sure the squad is good enough, mainly defencive frailty

Half time: #CLUBBRUGGE - #TOTTENHAMHOTSPUR 1-0 and #SVZULTEWAREGEM - #ATLPARANAENSE 0-1

^^^ and, agian, remember, we have talked the talk about it not just being about winning games with younger players. If you talk the talk, you have to walk the walk (y)
