Good work out for some of our squad for Saturday.

Livermore did a decent job and congratulations on a first cap.

Defoe scored a brilliant goal, looked sharp and hungry.

And Vertonghen popped up in the penalty box to put away Belgium's *4th* against Holland.

Guess he's taken to a high line then.

Delighted for him. It's great seeing one of our own come through the ranks and win international honours.

I can honestly say I want him to prove he is good enough for us long term more than any other player. He loves the club and has a great attitude. Hopefully he is the first of many homegrown yids that do well for us.

vertonghen is like our david luiz, except without the complete barking madness(y)

Good to see someone from the youth set-up play his first International.

Bit surprised to be honest, as he only just broke into the first team last term.

Hopefully this means Hodgson has seen a future England star in Livermore.

The fact that he made his full England debut withiut ever having played at any of the levels below, shows how hard the lad has been prepared to work to try to get to the top. Respect

Thought he came on leaps and bounds last season when many Spurs fans (myself included) had largely written him off. He seems positionally sound, has a decent head on his shoulders and can play that defensive midfield role very effectively in the absence of Parker or Sandro.

He needs to develop his passing and learn to take the ball forward a bit (as we know he can get a goal if he gets forward) but there is still time for that.

Well done Jake. Long may it continue.

I agree with everything here, but would add i think it is important we loan him out for the season to a mid table team to get game time, just like we did with walker! without game time, which i dont think he will get enough of with us this season just now, he wont improve as much as we all want and think he should IMO

Depends on who we bring in and how injured Parker is. If we want to give the cups a proper go this season then Livermore will get plenty of opportunities, and I suspect he'll start on Saturday due to Parker being out and Sandro being untried in the eyes of AVB.

If he takes his opportunities I think there's more than enough game time to be had at Spurs. But if not then yes I hope we loan him rather than selling him.

Him and JJ in midfield for this Saturday does not fill me with confidence unfortunately.

Weirdly I think that's quite a good combo. Obviously not what we want but as a backup central midfield we could do a lot worse. Those two with Sigurdsson in front of them? I reckon that's not that bad at all.

I just think it won't be defensive enough for how the toon play.

I said all along he's just as good as Henderson but because he cost £18m it's almost like he has to be given more of a chance.
More than happy to see Jake starting for us, although I would like to see more quality than JJ alongside him. They're a bit too similar as well imo.

Well chuffed for the lad. He's done well for us. He's got good ability, without being standout in any one area except his work rate and determination. What pleased me was to see him giving out instructions, when he passed a player on to a team mate there was lots of pointing and talking, shows he wasn't afraid despite it being his first cap (even more impressive given he hasn't come through any of the England youth teams).

I think he's a good solid player, the type that a lot of top teams have but they get underrated because bigger lights shine brighter. He's the type of player who will somehow rack up 30 appearances a season without anyone noticing, but will actually do a crucial job coming on for tired players and doing a job, filling in certain positions when we have injuries/suspensions/players need a rest.

He has completely the right attitude, and credit must go to Harry for giving him a chance. People above have talked about Livermore and Jenas starting against Newcastle on saturday - its not Livermore that worries me, and I'll not be surprised if its Jake lading the midfield and giving out the orders to the vastly more experienced Jenas.

Nice clip there....

I did laugh at the commentator saying - "What you doing" when Defoe kicked it...Jermain knew what he was doing!! ;)
