Dempsey joins

Am i missing something here? 1 yr left on contract, scored loads of goals as lone striker last year.......I didnt see much of him last year but maybe we could swap some players with BMJ i.e Bentley, Jenas, Bassong?

Just a thought on a sunny Sunday morning

Was thinking the same thing this morning. If we can't afford Ade, Llorente et al then he is a viable alternative that I think would fit well in the new high pressing system. In fact even if we get Ade i would sell Defoe and buy Dempsey.

He's not a lone striker. He's a 10. We have VdV and Siggy and don't need Dempsey. Also Fulham will probably want 10-15mil and honestly it's not worth a punt to see if he could succeed as a #9. And I love the guy as a US fan.

I was thinking the same thing. How many times has he scored operating as a striker compared to an AM or winger? I'm not stating a fact, but honestly asking.

We have more than enough players to fill those roles, and what we need now is a striker who can produce goals, not another AM or player who can come up the wings.

I really do love him as a player (he's been in my fantasy prem team for the last 3 seasons) and he's fun to watch, but do we really need him compared to a straight up striker?

VDV and Gylfi are more than enough. We need firepower.

I would buy Dempsey to replace Aaron Lennon on the right but only after we sign 2 strikers and a CM to replace Modric

I was suggesting him at the end of last season and I don't know why he isn't a realistic prospect. Last season he scored 17 goals in 37 appearances, 12 the year before from 37. Adebayor had 17 in 33 which is admittedly better but Dempsey would be a lot cheaper I feel and would allow AVB to play with 1 proper striker in JD if that's what he wants.

Ideally, though, we need someone who's going to get 20+ league goals. Why not make a bid for Cisse or Ba? Last season Cisse got almost a goal per game and in the past he's got at least 1 in 2, if not better.

Don't want players that refuse to train or play for their current clubs, sick to death of these kind of guys and don't want these unprofessional players at our club if we can help it.

He's not an option because he's not a lone striker.

Adebayor is cheaper transfer fee wise. Dempsey is older than Ade and Rafa as well. We have two players that play his position already, one is world class (VdV), the other is a young potential star that needs to play (Siggy).

Defoe is not a lone striker. Defoe is a poacher, and like you said needs someone like Dempsey behind him. But not the way we are playing this season. Plus, if we were to play like that, that's what Rafa/Siggy are for. Both are better and younger than Clint.

Useful player, but fail to see where he'd be of benefit. Would be a recent Levy signing though for sure. Moutinho? 40m? no way, you can have Clint Demps instead.

What a player and someone I think will be a great scorer of goals for us.

However I am not sure if I should like him because he went on strike at Fulham.
