I'm watching it on FF now and Friedel really was poor for the goal. Goes down quickly and narrow and gives Zamora a big target. Dembele's half hearted challenge on the edge was just as bad.
My stat app tells me that Defoe managed 1 pass in the first half.
And that was when we kicked off.
Fucking hell.

That's not what I saw at Swansea at all.
His movement is not poor - you don't always move to receive the ball you often move to create space as well. If you watch closely you'll see that he is very talented and smart at finding space to receive the ball in, and you'll see that he has good awareness of players around him.
Particularly in the Reading game, he could have had a couple of goals due to his ability to find space in the box. In one instance, the shot was blocked on the line, in another, Defoe didn't lay it back to him.
I'm very confident in this prediction, I'm sure he will become good and I think his struggles so far are just in adjusting to a new team.
It was a poor goal to concede, Dembele's tackle was weak and then three of them got done by Faurlins disguised pass, add in Vertonghen wasnt alert to Zamora, Walker played them all onside and yes Friedel should possibly have stood bigger. Multiple mistakes from multiple players... pretty much a snapshot of the whole gamr from our POV, with the team as a whole spluttering badly.
It's been said a lot that Gallas brings a winning mentality, but I think Vertonghen might bring that even more so. Look how Gallas and Walker both pretty much give up but Vertonghen's having none of it.
Edit - well after watching it 10 more times I don't think they gave up, just didn't try as hard as Vertonghen did to prevent the goal.
How an earth do you get that Gallas gave that up ? He made a mistake letting Zamora get in front of him to start with, but he then gets back at Zamora (I think Zamora's pass to Hoilet actually flicks off Gallas) then he keeps sprinting to put himself in a position to cover the shot.

I think that's a bit of a harsh criticism on that goal, I saw Windy tweet that at the time. It never really crossed my mind if I'm honest.
The thing that did piss me off was a ball in the second half that went straight through our 6 yard box, 41 or 21 that was his ball to claim, Walker (i think) put it out for a corner and pressure was invited once more. A proactive goalkeeper will alow us to clear our lines better, move up the pitch and keep playing.
I also noticed Lloris position on Thursday when we had the ball, he would be on the edge of the box, and always available for the pass back, it adds another dimension to our play having that.
I tried to explain that to the guy standing behind me on Sunday. Wasn't having any of it, just kept telling me he looked too 'skinny' to be a good goalkeeper.
Mind you he was also telling me he was glad we sold van der Vaart.

It actually looked that way to me live as it happened. You could just see Friedel's reaction made the goal sort of inevitable. He was slow (which JH points out but watching it again is right) he goes down way to early and easy and sort of narrow not spread.
There is an identical situation in the same goal when Bale goes through on Cesar. Cesar reacts better, stays up longer and makes the save because of this.
Also, watching it back, Cesar makes about three great saves culminating in the last minute one from Defoe. I would bet one of A&C's bollocks that Friedel would not have got to that. Full stretch, finger tip save, on the deck.
I actually thought Friedel was a bit slow to react to Norwich's equaliser too. That may be harsh ?
