Used to love the game I had to stop playing poker, could never handle the swings, you'd play for hours and go deep in a tournament and then get ****ed by someone who should never have been in the hand in the first place. I once kept a list of about 30 games I played on Pokerstars and maybe 4 or 5 times of the 30 I was behind in the hand, got outdrawn every time.

Cruel game.

The worst (or best depending on how you look at it) bad beat that went for me was drawing a Jack of spades on the river giving me a straight flush, beating his poker of Kings, the only card in the deck that could save me. Nice when it happens.

I actually found the hand!

The swings are terrible at the moment,im sure if you have a fairly big win on any of these sites, you seem to go on a bad run.

No matter what i do it seems to be the wrong move, although i play more live than on-line its getting to me,the boys tell me to play through it,but at the moment i feel like jacking the game in (obviously wont) i love the game.

Playing saturday night,£100 freezeout,15 left from the 77 runners, after a raise from a very active player,i get all my chips in QQ...its 37k more to him..after a dwell he calls with 99 (you can see whats coming here) blank flop, turn bricks off, river 9 !!! i feel sick..this has been going on for a couple of months now...maybe a little break is in order.

Thought I'd bring this back instead of make a new poker thread. Anyone here still play? I've been winning lately so no bad beats stand out but it's only a matter of time.

A few of the poker sites let you create games now so if there's interest, we could maybe set up a Spurs Community league or tournament.

I'm a regular player off and online, found that the swings online are harder to take - you see far far more hands and therefore see far more bad beats, but they are killer.

I play in a regular £10 rebuy NLHE game and would have no issues in setting up a Spurs community game on the pokerstars home game bit- we could give a bit of the pot to SC for the costs too....

I'm up for that Glenn, sounds good to me!

My tip for anyone reading this to avoid bad beats, although you obviously can't eliminate them completely, would be to focus on match selection. When I first started playing online poker I played loads of type of games and my results were poor in many of them, after a while though I worked out that my ROI was highest when I play 6 man sit 'n goes on the 888 network. They pay back your buy in if you finish 3rd and the players in general are worse than on pokerstars.

Pokerstars and Full Tilt (back from the grave) have the best tournaments by a mile but they're much harder to make a profit in, I had a few small cashes in the 11$ Sunday Storm but then I put most of my PS bankroll into the SCOOP series last year and lost most of it. My main bankroll is spread out over 888, WSOP, Betfair and Sky Poker. These are the sites with the weakest players as far as I can tell, it's not uncommon to have your AA and KK called by AT, A9, KQ, KJ etc.. it makes the badbeats worse but much less frequent.

Which sites do this, would be very interested in this!

Pokerstars probably has the best software for it, 888 and WSOP (same network as 888) also let you create games. There are probably more now, there seems to be a new poker room opening every day.

I'm $500 below expectation during the past 2 days.

Also if you are going to sign up to any poker site, make sure you get an affiliate. raketherake.com are the biggest affiliate site as well as pokervip.com

Like the idea of a few games. I am on Pokerstars. Not a bad beat, but was heads up against some dude today and he showed pocket aces 3 times in 4 hands.....

I want me some of that action.

Playing a home game tonight which should be good, but my online poker is a bit up and down to be honest. Play predominantly 6 man sit and go's and go through incredible periods of winning and then downswings of the same period.

Omar, what's the deal with affiliate?

What stakes do you play? My whole bankroll added together is only about $550 but I play smallish stakes, I started with only a £40 deposit though so I'm pleased with my results. I'm too chicken to move up, every time I've taken a shot at a higher level I seem to play like a twat or get horrible cards

That's running good! I remember getting back to back aces once but everyone folded on both hands

Ouch! That's just a cruel kick in the teeth!!

I try to forget the bad beats as quickly as possible but have been beaten on ace high flushes and full houses a few times.

As a few people have said the swings are just beyond a joke sometimes. I had left my Sky Poker account for ages and they offered to match any deposit up to a limit so I stuck a tenner in which they matched. Started low stakes and built it up to around £250 and lost the lot over a couple of nights on higher stake tables, just kept getting bad beat after bad beat ffs

Any of you ever got home drunk and thought it would be a good idea to challenge yourselves to play higher stakes? Doesn't usually go too well.

I've just ended my SkyPoker account. Some of the bad beats on there are just insane...

Did the same as you with the matched deposit and worked up to £300, playing well, then all of a sudden having every hand against me hit, even one outer's at times. Time and time again. Feels beyond fixed at times when you can call the cards before they're turned over on the turn and river!

Controlling tilt has to be one of the most difficult skills in poker. Keeping a clear mind, especially online can be really difficult. Separates the pros and the rest of us!
